Travel Style 101: Carry On Essentials

Hey hey hey everyone! It’s time for my last entry in the Travel Style Series, and this one is about some Carry-On Essentials!

Carry On Essentials

When traveling, whether it’s by air, car, ferry or train, it’s really important to have all the essentials in your carry on bag. Honestly, it can make or break your journey, and I think we’ve all experienced that cold, horrific moment when you realize you forgot something crucial from your bag. So, to avoid this nightmare, I’ve got some essentials for you. (:

1. Water

I always have a bottle of water with me to stay hydrated. I drink so much water and I like to always have it with me if I get thirsty!

2. iPhone/ iPod and Earphones

No matter where I am, I always have my phone with me, and most often it’s in my hands! When I go on trips, I always have my earphones as well to listen to music, maybe watch some movies, and escape the world for a bit in my own little bubble of entertainment. (:

3. Good Reads

good reads

When I want to take a break from staring at my hot, bright computer or phone screen, I always like to have a couple of books or magazines with me! I love love loooove reading, and I like to keep that up on a plane or car ride.

A book that I am finally about to start is The Fault In Our Stars. Yes, I saw the movie, and yes, I bawled my eyes out, and yes, I wore waterproof mascara so my makeup wouldn’t run because yes, I knew my heart was going to break into a million pieces only to be swept up later from the floors of the cinema. Comment  below what your favorite book is! I need some new recommendations (:

4. Gum

gum

I actually never chew gum (I’m more of a mint kinda girl) but when I go on airplanes I absolutely must have some with me. I chew it on the plane if I get that weird feeling in my ear while in the air, and I usually go for the Trident Layers. I may not chew gum often, but this one is so yummy!

5. Chapstick

I don’t know if it’s just me, but my lips get super chapped, especially on airplanes, so I always have my trusty Burt’s Bees Chapstick in my carry-on. Let’s be real, I always have my trusty Burt’s Bees Chapstick with me, period! Their chapsticks are so amazing and hydrating; they leave my lips feeling soft and moisturized.

6. Laptop and Movies

Laptop and Movies

Typically on longer trips, I take my laptop and a few of my favorite movies with me to keep myself entertained. Per my sweet mother’s advice, I do, at times, take a break to take in the scenery and “God’s creation” that’s all around me, but once I get a little tired of looking at skyscrapers, trees, and cows, I escape to Hollywood and watch some movies.

7. A Journal

journal

Now, when I am taking in “God’s creation,” I get inspired and write in my travel journal! I love writing, whether it’s about a specific topic, some poetry, a story or just what’s going on in my life. I have a journal that I like to write in about my travels, and it’s super fun to look back and re-live the fun moments.

8. Travel Size Makeup

If you did decide to wear makeup on your trip, then I think it’s nice to have a few travel-sized makeup  items in your bag. After spending a few hours on the ride, you may want to touch up your makeup, so it’s nice to have it on you rather than search for it later- much more convenient!

9. Comfy Socks

comfy socks

This is an absolute must for me on trips! When traveling, it’s crucial to wear comfortable shoes with a comfy outfit! (You can check out my first post in my Travel Series for comfy outfit inspo.) But when I’m in a car, on a plane, or even a train, I sometimes remove my shoes and wear some comfy, fuzzy socks! They keep my lil’ piggies warm (am I the only one who thinks that planes, trains, and cars- at times- are always freezing!?) and make me comfortable throughout my journey.

Well, that’s it for this post! Tell me in the comments below what your number one carry-on essential is! While you’re at it, let me know what book you’d recommend! I love reading new books, so I’m open to suggestions. Don’t forget to subscribe for more from me, and follow my Instagram, Twitter, and like my Facebook page!

Stay Fab,

  1. I could not agree more with the socks. I like to wear sandals when I travel because they’re easier to take off for security, but my feet are always cold on the plane! Great tips, and I’ll be sure to reference this when I’m packing for my Study Abroad in France this fall!

  2. Love this post! The visuals on this are really cool too. I’m going on a flight tomorrow so I’ll make sure to check that I have everything on here in my carry on.
