Kicking it at Kick Pleat

Bonjour, mes amies! Kay B here with another article for you all. I hope you all are feeling more rested than I am at the start of the new week- I feel like I have been on the run every day since last week, and this weekend was no different.

On the bright side, I was kept busy with lots of fun and exciting activities- one of them being going to Kick Pleat in Austin to interview designer Miranda Bennett!

Photography by Angelica C.

We had a great chat together, and you can read all about that interview here.

For those of you who are don’t know, Kick Pleat is a women’s clothing, shoes and accessories store with an airy aesthetic and clean design that will transport you to the finest of high-fashion dreams.

The exterior and interior design of the store speak to the vibe of the clothes and accessories that grace the racks and shelves of Kick Pleat. A woman will walk in through their doors and immediately feel empowered to breathe life into her unique persona through the many ensembles and pieces that Kick Pleat has to offer. I had so much fun looking around and venturing through the shop.

Each section of the store has its own voice and speaks to each customer uniquely and individually. Just as every woman has her individuality, you won’t find anything like what you will discover within the white mod walls of Kick Pleat.

My favorite parts of the store were the dressing room and the shoe stadium, by far. Can we just talk about this stadium for a minute? Goals, without a doubt.

Of course, I want to share my outfit with you all from my Kick Pleat visit. It was a daytime event, so I decided not to dress up too much while keeping it light and classy on sweltering spring day. (Seriously, “spring” in Texas is in the upper 80’s…)

Top: Candie’s | Shorts: H&M | Booties: | Coach | Sunglasses: Aldo | Purse: Mix No. 6

It was such a beautiful day outside, though I’m almost certain that Texas skipped the spring season and went straight for summer. So I wanted to wear light and loose garments while still looking put together. I chose for my makeup look of the day to be a light one as well, in regards to color tones as well as application. The Mac Pro Longwear foundation is my holy grail on beating hot days such as Friday. Let me know if you want to hear more about my makeup and skincare routine!

Can you tell that I was (and still am) obsessed with this shoe stadium? I can’t get over it- and don’t believe I ever will…

My outfit for this  day was pretty neutral in my blouse and booties, so I brought a pop of color to my ensemble with my cinch waist shorts from H&M. I love these because while they are a longer pair of shorts, they’re loose and airy enough to wear on the hottest of day. Not to mention, the cinched waist is not only a beautiful addition of detail, but is also very flattering. When worn with a loose shirt tucked in or even a fitted blouse, it draws attention to your waistline and makes it look smaller in your mid-section

If that doesn’t win you over, then you should know that these shorts have pockets. AND a drawstring bow. You’re welcome.

I had so much fun visiting Kick Pleat, interviewing Miranda Bennett, and shooting for this article. I’m so happy to be back on the blog and can’t wait to share even more with you guys. Look out for some exciting new additions and changes around here soon… I think you guys will like what I have in store for you all. (: Don’t forget to keep up with me on all my socials (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook) and very soon we’ll be adding YouTube to the mix! Also, big thanks to Angie for the photography- go ahead and check out all of her photography here.

Sending lots of love to you all, and wishing you a wonderful rest of your day or night! Until next time, lovies…

Kay B xx

Lady in Black: NYFW Edition

Hey hey, my darlings. Happy September and Happy Studded Collar Sunday! It’s crazy how fast time flies as we say goodbye to the summer and begin to welcome the fall season.

With the fall season comes New York Fashion Week, and this past Thursday, I was able to kick off the NYFW festivities in style with Allison Mitchell’s private preview party for her SS 2015/2016 Collection.

IMG_3736IMG_3726

I opted for a classic look, and what’s more classic than a little black dress? I love that the chiffon overlay of this dress is tea-length while the thicker dress layer underneath is knee-length. It adds a funky yet simple dimension to the look of the dress as well as modernizing what some like to think of as a “dated hemline.” I also really like that the dress combines a sleeveless cut with a turtleneck neckline. It’s simply unique and it makes this dress easier to transition from summer to fall- a richly colored jacket or coat over this number and come heeled booties would make this dress easy to “fall” for. (pun very much so intended.)
IMG_3732 IMG_3730IMG_3733IMG_3724

I wish you guys could have seen the back of this dress- it made what seems like a simple, black shift dress stellar. the turtleneck collar wraps around and becomes similar to a shirt collar in the back. Then, along the center and down the back of the dress, a gold hardware zipper lines the dress. To add to the impeccable details, the chiffon layer splits down the middle so that the gold zipper is visible and adds a kick to this outfit. I’ll have to share a picture of it with you guys so you can see it.IMG_3718 IMG_3720 IMG_3714IMG_3725 IMG_3713

My dress was black with gold detailing, my shoes were black with gold studded detailing, and even my eye makeup was pretty dark with a slight gold tint gracing my lids, so I definitely wanted to add some color to this ensemble. I went for red because it’s bold and contrasts beautifully with all the black and gold details. It wasn’t too much and added a great pop of color to an otherwise dark outfit.

IMG_3716

Tip: If you want to vamp up your neutral or simple outfit, a bold statement necklace is definitely a lifesaver. If it’s in a bold color, pattern, or design and contrasts well when worn against one or two solid colors, you have a winner!

Putting together this outfit was almost as fun as the party was! It was so great to see Allison and her gorgeous handbags again, and I had so much fun catching up with old friends and making new ones like Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes. Fun fact she was the first fashion blogger that I knew about and read, and she had a hand in inspiring me to start TSC, so it was quite humbling to meet her- she is even lovelier in person and such a sweetheart. Be sure to check out her blog!

IMG_3830 IMG_3831

Allison worked long and hard on designing a gorgeous line for the coming year, and it definitely showed! Her work is impeccable, modern and definitely one of a kind. She designed her over-sized clutches to be functional, fashion-forward and different, and they definitely turn heads and get people talking. They’re made locally with dyed Connecticut calf hair, and you can see the quality in her work. It was pretty cool to see her bags before they made their debut on the runways of New York and Paris Fashion Week. If you want to see more of Allison’s work, head over to her website to check out the rest of her gorgeous bags for yourself!

Sunny Days and an Endless Summer

Happy Tuesday, friends! Welcome to another Studded Collar article where we shall experience another excerpt from my style journey. (:

We are now in the heart of summer, and it’s crazy to think that I am already half way through my summer break! I have been out, about, and on the run ever since I was let out for summer break, and now that I’m approaching the halfway mark, I’m realizing how much I’m wishing for an endless summer. I thought it would be nice to take a break from the hustle and bustle to take a trip to the park for a little bit. Plus, it was such a great excuse to wear my new Ray-Ban glasses from Ditto!

IMG_3089

Dress: H&M | Shoes: Target | Sunglasses: RayBan c/o Ditto

Photography: Rachel Brown

IMG_3092 IMG_3104IMG_3125This is such a simple look that is quick and easy to throw on while still looking put together. Dresses can be as casual as can be, but with the right accessories like these Ray-Bans in the style 4171 Erika, you can look even cooler on the hottest of summer days. This is one of my favorite summer dresses, and I think these simply chic glasses took my outfit to the next level.
IMG_3122IMG_3080 IMG_3132 IMG_3138 IMG_3175IMG_3165 IMG_3183

OOTN: Leaf It to Me

Hey there, friends! I hope you all are having a wonderful day or evening and are taking it easy this weekend.

Last night, I had the privilege of attending the Stanley Korshak Shakiversary party to celebrate the store’s one year anniversary of being in its new space. Check out my recap of the festivities here!

IMG_2096Happy SHAKiversary, Stanley Korshak!

I had just as much fun at the party as I did getting ready, so I thought to share with you guys my outfit and makeup details with you all.IMG_2128

I decided to go with a dark brown, smokey and earthy look. I thought that the colors would marry well with my leafy green romper and tan accentsIMG_2130

1. After applying my foundation and loose powder, I applied a bronze shadow all over my lid.

2. I then used an angled blush to apply a matte, dark chocolate-brown shadow on the outer half of my lid.

3. Next, I took a matte, medium shaded brown and applied it in my crease for definition.

Beauty Tip: After I applied the brown shadows to my outer corners and my crease, my bronze shadow was lost under the matte colors. Because I wanted my bronze shadow to pop more and brighten my eye, I re-applied the bronze shadow a little bit more with a smaller, angled shadow brush. The angle and small size helped to make my application more precise.

4. Once my shadows had set, I used black liquid liner on my eyelid to create a thick winged look. There are so many ways to create a winged liner look, so sound off in the comments or like this article if you would like for me to post a tutorial!

Beauty Tip: To make sure that your liquid liner won’t smudge, crease, or fade throughout the day or night, once the liner has dried, set it with a matching colored shadow! This will make your eyeliner last so much longer and maintain a fresh look.

5. I brushed and shaped my brows, and, to ensure that they stayed in place, I brushed them with a bit of clear brow gel. I filled my brows in with a mix of dark brown and black brow powder; dark brown alone would be a tad too light, and black alone would be too harsh.

6. Finally, I applied a red-brown liquid lipstick to go with the earthy look.

IMG_1899

Now, let’s move on to the outfit details!

IMG_2148

Romper: H&M | Blazer: Jessica Simpson | Shoes: Steve Madden | Purse: Ralph Lauren | Necklace: Forever 21 |

IMG_2135 IMG_2140 IMG_2138IMG_2141

I simply can not get over this romper from H&M’s Conscious line- it’s so fun and perfect for the summer. Rompers are pretty tricky because you are basically wearing a top and bottom sewn together in one size, so you can’t pick and choose the size of the top and bottom. This, however, is the first romper that I have tried on and loved the fit. Not only is the tailoring close to perfect, this leafy romper is very comfortable! I added the tan belt to define my waist a bit more because without it, the romper appeared to be a straight cut. The addition of a belt to most outfits is a great way to quickly add some shape and provide the illusion of an hourglass figure.
IMG_2152 IMG_2146 IMG_2144

My favorite part of this romper has to be the leaf pattern. It is such a fresh, fun look, and I think it could definitely be dressed up or down! For the party, I wore it in a more formal and dressy fashion, but I can’t wait to wear it again and try out a more casual look! I’ll update you all on how that goes… (:
IMG_2143

Thank you guys so much for reading, and I hope you liked the mini makeup tutorial! Like and/or comment on this post is you would like for me to do more makeup tutorials, and also let me know what other types of articles you all would like to see from me! I love you guys so so much, and until next time…IMG_2149

Land of the Free

Happy Friday Eve (aka Thursday), darlings! I hope July is off to a great start for you all.

This weekend, July kicks off with fun and celebration with friends and family. Whether you’re heading out to the lake, going to a backyard barbecue, or just hanging around town with friends, 4th of July weekend is a fun time with loved ones and a great excuse to throw some patriotic spirit and festivity into your outfit!

IMG_2929

Top: Forever 21 | Shorts: Dailylook | Shoes: Converse | Belt: Cotton On | Bracelet: Anthropologie | Sunnies: Forever 21

What I’ve found to be a common occurrence in the past is that of some people wearing extreme outfits in which it could be assumed that they bought a flag and made a dress of it, or wearing red, white, and blue in overwhelming ways. That got me to thinking, and I realized that there are more flattering ways to wear the patriotic colors without looking like Betsy Ross passionately put your outfit together and still maintaining the fun vibes. I thought it would be fun to share a casual and cute outfit idea for the 4th of July that incorporates the red, white, and blue while looking cool and ever so American. (:

IMG_2940IMG_2917 IMG_2924IMG_2926

Just admiring some imaginary fireworks then laughing as I remember it’s daytime and it’s not the 4th of July just yet… (:
IMG_3000IMG_3020
This outfit is perfect for celebrating the 4th and hanging out with friends and family. The boxy, blue and white, striped crop is a great compliment to the white, distressed, high-waisted shorts and balances out the color. Not only do the colors look great, but the wide and boxy top and cinched waist of the shorts will make your waist look a lot smaller! The horizontal stripes are also very flattering.

By the way, can we take notice of the fact that white converse already have all the U.S. colors? Simple and cute… I like it!

IMG_2965

Now, let’s talk makeup!

IMG_2982

Because my top is already so dark and I decided to sport a bold red lip, I opted for an overall softer eye and naturally blushed cheeks. I used a medium gold shadow on my lid, a rosy red on the outer half of my lid, and then a medium brown in my crease for definition. I lined my eyelids with the black liquid liner “Stiletto” by Maybelline and defined my lashes by using Maybelline’s Falsies Colossal Cat Eyes mascara. To add a light color to my cheeks, I lightly dusted a warm, rosy blush with tan undertones onto the apples of my cheeks.

IMG_2986

Wearing red lipstick is a great way to bolden your makeup look as well as tie your patriotic look together.

IMG_2985

“OMG I love America!!!”

Well, my loves, there you have it! I hope you all liked this outfit and that it gave you guys some ideas for your own ensemble on the 4th of July! I really love this look, and it’s so great for watching fireworks with friends, chilling out at the lake, or just having backyard fun with the family. If you guys want to share your 4th of July outfits with me, tweet me pictures because I’d love to see them! Just tag me (@StuddedCollar) in your pictures and I’ll retweet some of them. Sweet Valentine: Daytime Look

Hello, hello, hello my darlings, and Happy New Year!! I apologize for being unable to ring in the new year with you all and for the low supply of new posts, but you know well enough that I am never far from you and return as quickly as possible. (: I hope that 2014 holds fond memories for you all and that new ventures, lessons and sweet times lie ahead in 2015.

Welcome to my first post of 2015! (cue the confetti) With the first major holiday of the year already a month behind us, we have Valentine’s Day to look forward to. Yes, even if you do not have a significant other you can still expect to have fun on V-Day! Whether you will be spending the day with your lovie or taking on the town with your best girl friends, you can still look killer while doing it.

IMG_4642[1]

Dress: H&M | Shoes: Steve Madden | Jewelry: Charming Charlie | Nail Polish: Maybelline ColorShow

Valentine’s Day dawns the most pink, red and white than any other day of the year, but you do not necessarily need to put together an outfit that makes you look like you covered yourself in glue and frolicked through Hallmark’s Valentine’s Day isle. I’ve put together a daytime look that is perfect to wear while with your girls or your boyf and it includes the festive colors in a more wearable fashion. (:

IMG_4648 IMG_4649

Note that my dress is not all red, white, or pink, but within the pattern, pink is the predominant color. I accented my look with neutral-toned, gemed jewelry to add a touch of formality. The look is sweet, feminine, and is perfect for a fun day with your special loves.

IMG_4654

Believe it or not, this is my first bubble skirt purchase (a bubble skirt is one that comes out at the dress’s waist line and has a rounded figure), and I really like it! I appreciate the placement of the waistline- dresses that have their wait’s seam at your natural waist are some of the most flattering as opposed to an empire wait that makes your torso, at times, appear smaller and your mid-section wider (depending on your body type).

IMG_4655 IMG_4656 IMG_4657 IMG_4658

When wearing a dress as busy as this, it’s best to choose a solid colored shoe. That’s not to say that the shoe itself can’t make it’s own statement. These suede, ankle-strap, open toed platforms from Steve Madden are simple in their neutral tone, but don’t fail to stand out with its thick straps and heel.

IMG_4660 IMG_4659 IMG_4668 IMG_4669IMG_4653

I opted for a soft, romantic look since this is a daytime outfit. I love how the muted fuchsia lip pops but doesn’t appear harsh with the other softened makeup features. A light rosy blush and a soft smoky eye married beautifully with this ensemble. Like this post and comment below if you want to see this make-up tutorial!

IMG_4664 IMG_4662 IMG_4661

Just some candids of me being… well, me. (:

Well, my darlings, that’s all I have for you today! I hope this inspired you somehow and that you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed putting this together for you. Remember that regardless of whether or not you have a Valentine, you should show some extra love to others- it’s what keeps our world moving after all!

The Fashion X Dallas Experience

Happy Studded Collar Sunday, my loves! I hope you all are doing well and having a lovely day. This past weekend, from November 6-8, Dallas had the first annual Fashion X Dallas event- a weekend full of stellar fashion shows, intriguing gallery displays, and some of the most influential people in the fashion industry from Dallas to Los Angeles and anywhere in between. Fashion X was founded by the man behind Austin Fashion Week, Matt Swinney, who has already succeeded in making Austin the southern fashion capital as well as making Austin Fashion Week one of the top fashion events within the southern United States. With this and more under his belt, I predict only great things in the future for Fashion X Dallas. img_0233 Now, you’re probably asking what this has to do with me. Well, I had the honor of being invited by one of the designers displaying at FXD to attend the first ever Fashion X Dallas, and I attended the show on Saturday. Each day showcased different designers and Saturday, the finale, was the day for the Project Runway alum and All Stars to share their passion and talent with us. These designers have now made a name for themselves and are making it big in the fashion world- it was so humbling to watch their shows! I walked the red carpet, kicked back in the VIP lounge, went backstage and met some wonderful figures (including the designers themselves!) This was such a great event, and I want to share every moment with you so YOU can fully grasp it (this is why this post is longer than usual articles). As they say, a picture is worth 1,000 words, so let me show you just how amazing of an experience Saturday night was. img_0193

Blouse: BCX | Skirt: Forever 21 | Reptile Skin Pumps: DSW | Tote Purse: Charming Charlie |

Bracelet and Pendant Necklace: Charming Charlie | Earings: Swarovski

I walk on carpets almost every day in my life, but none of them have held as much prominence as the red carpet. I will never forget my first experience walking down Crimson Way.

img_0631

As we walked into the event, Allie, my photographer, and I had some photos snapped of us.

img_0152 img_0154img_0185

While waiting for the shows to begin, I relaxed in the VIP Lounge and chatted with other attendees.

img_0155

A big thank you to Amika for the wonderful demonstration and gift wall! If you guys are looking for a volumizing texturizer spray or dry shampoo, then definitely take a look at Amika’s selection. Both products spray on clear, smell divine and are incredibly light. I highly recommend  them to anyone with any hair type.

img_2537

I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing designer Melissa Fleis backstage before her runway show and she and I had a fun conversation about her collection, her favorite trends, and a golden piece of advice. To see the entire interview, stay tuned for another post coming soon. (:

Kay B: “If you can tell us before everything goes out on the runway tonight, what inspired this collection and what is the story behind it?”

Melissa Fleis: “I guess the story is that it’s a collection. It’s a collection of past works styled together. So I took pieces from Project Runway, I have pieces that are from my most recent collection, pieces that are brand new for the collection- it’s just kind of like a mashup, which is awesome because I’ve never done that! You always build a collection, and then you show the collection together, but I said, ‘Let’s just view this from new eyes.’ I like how everything goes together no matter what season it is and that’s how I try to sell to my clients.”

 img_0159

Next stop, the second floor. This is where the shows took place as well as where The Gallery resided. It was great to see all the products and meet the designers behind the magic.

img_0162 img_0174 img_0178IMG_0225 IMG_0229 IMG_0228

The founder of and designer for Consuela, Conni Reed, had these beautiful handbags on display that are absolutely to die for- the handcrafted, genuine leather already knocks it out of the park, but the floral designs are laser printed onto the leather for a flawless finish. Consuela also specializes in accessories and shoes. Go take a look at their website for a full view of her breathtaking products.

img_0219

img_0221

Such a pleasure to finally meet the talented and charmingly relatable jewelry designer, Kristin Miller. All of her beautiful jewelry is made here in the USA with hand cast brass and custom cut stones. I’ve always loved her jewelry- it can be worn in any way possible and speak to each individual. If you haven’t already checked out her lines, I strongly encourage that you do. Right now.

IMG_2572[1] IMG_2573[1]

Madison of Mad Jewels caught my attention in the gallery with her vibrant, colorful display of handmade jewelry. When I asked her why she opted for such bright colors in the fall season among all the neutrals and darker colors, she told me that every season needs a little color, and every outfit needs a little pop of vibrancy. Honestly, she couldn’t have answered my question any better than she did. It’s her vibrant products that made her unforgettable, and if you want to be just as memorable, definitely look into Mad Jewels.

img_0211IMG_0208 img_0216

With the lovely foundress of Mona Jain Jewelry. I was so taken by the perfect combination of  traditional eastern design with a modern esthetic. From the largest pendant  to the smallest drop earring, each piece is beautifully crafted and undeniably captivating.

IMG_0244 IMG_0241 IMG_0240img_0635 Allison Mitchell’s larger than life clutches are sure to turn heads, and they definitely caught my attention (Ever since I laid eyes on them I can’t seem to get them out of my head!) These clutches are made from genuine animal hide and velvet and are, as Allison told me, a blank canvas. The designs, colors, and everything in between are the first step- all stylings after that are up to the wearer, and that’s what set’s Allison and her product apart from other handbag companies. Simple yet revolutionary- I applaud you, Ms. Mitchell.

Show Time!

IMG_0312 IMG_0326 IMG_0387

The genius behind La Miniature, Jeffrey Sebelia, thanks the crowd.

IMG_0396IMG_0432IMG_0494

Laura Kathleen is all smiles after a successful showing of her edgy, feminine fall collection. Rightfully so- everything looked amazing! I love her use of textures as opposed to patterns

IMG_0529 IMG_0537 IMG_0546

Daniel Esquivel wows his audience yet again with his Parisian-esque line. It is certain that he had everyone’s attention when he sent his collection down the runway.

IMG_0586 IMG_0590 IMG_0614

Mychael Knight’s fun personality was more than evident in his colorful line of women’s wear. When talking with him after the show, he told me about his use of  an 80’s floral print and eventually modernizing it with neon colors is an appealing move. His collection definitely celebrated  today’s modern young women.

IMG_0673 IMG_0693 IMG_0700

Korto Momolu does it again, creating a collection of women’s wear with an elegant, classic flow and a timeless design. I definitely need this blue number in my closet pronto! Bravo, Mrs. Momolu.

IMG_0724IMG_0730 IMG_0739

Melissa Fleis’s line was just as phenomenal as I anticipated it to be. It had all her edge and personality as well as the wearability she strives for. Congrats on another success, Melissa.

IMG_0744IMG_0762 IMG_0778

Michelle’s line was absolutely genius. I loved the inspiration she got from the 1930’s- she turned a time period in which the US was in an economic depression into a collection that struck my interest, kept me wanting more, and made me anything but depressed. When I asked Michelle about the layering, she told me that it appears outlandish at first sight, but each layer is wearable in daily life, so no one should feel overwhelmed. Her tips for layering? Make sure you can wear each one individually somehow and start with the thinnest apparel item.

IMG_0782 IMG_0805 IMG_0816

Anthony Ryan Auld closed the show with a beautiful collection of a beautiful geometric and organic melange. I love that his pieces made me feel more than “That looks really cool,” and made me yearn for each and every item that graced the runway. What an artist, well done.

img_0825

Mychael Knight and I in the VIP Lounge after his flawless show and our laughter-filled interview (the full interview will be released in a later post 🙂 )

img_0822Michelle and I caught up after her show in the Lounge as well and talked about her line, her Project Runway experience, and fashion tips for the season!

img_0624img_0620 img_0630 img_0628 I had the chance to go backstage and chat with Laura Kathleen about her line after her show and the inner workings of the fashion industry. She also gave me a closeup look of one of her favorite pieces, the blue jumpsuit that opened  the show, and shared her thought process behind the piece. Besides being such an amazing talent, Laura Kathleen is such a sweet lady and is so fun to chat with.

img_0821

I had the pleasure of running into one of my favorite fashion bloggers and “Fashion Blogger Pen-Pals”, Ellen Flowers of The Perennial Style. Such a sweet individual who is sure to lift your spirits. Go check out her own fashion blog and see what she and her sisters are up to!

img_0640 img_0642

One of my highlights of the night was meeting the one and only Courtney Kerr, one of my fashion inspirations and role models, favorite fashion bloggers and personalities, and not to mention quite the renowned fashion icon. She was just as sweet as I thought her to be and just as gorgeous in person as well. (Can we talk about her boot/dress combo? On point, but I’m not surprised.) Ms. Kerr’s bright, warm and fun personality made me feel at ease, and the funniest part of our meeting was that she initially thought I looked 25! Far from it, I revealed my tender age of 16 and she couldn’t believe me (: Her own website is just as memorable and captivating as she, so I highly recommend that you check out her own blog! Thank you, Courtney for being so receptive and kind to me when we met, I’ll be in touch soon. :*

There you have it , folks. This is the end of my full documentation of the first annual Fashion X Dallas. All full interviews with the designers will be posted shortly, so stay tuned. It was such an honor to be invited to this event and to be in the presence of such prominent and accomplished individuals. Thank you to everyone who made this experience so memorable, and a huge thank you to my photographer and friend, Allie Burns, for the wonderful photographs. This is just the beginning of the fun, so stay tuned with me on The Studded Collar, my loves. Until next time…
