POLO: Ralph Lauren x Elle

Happy November, my darlings!!

It’s Kay B here with another fun article for you guys. About two weeks ago I attended the POLO: Ralph Lauren Grand Opening at the Northpark Center, which was hosted by Ralph Lauren and Elle Magazine’s Senior Market Editor, Jade Frampton. This was a grand opening unlike any other with a live fashion exhibition of the new holiday collection by Polo Ralph Lauren, an on-site artist sketching guests upon request, a lively DJ, and so much more.

Fun Fact: This live model and I wanted to take a picture together, but she couldn’t leave her platform, so I hopped onto her platform, modeled with her in the store and then snapped a photo together. We weren’t sure if it was allowed, but all worked out and we had fun in the process! (:

The pieces from the collection had an overall modern-classic vibe. What I love and always have loved about Ralph Lauren is that their clothing, accessories, etc. are incredibly sophisticated, versatile, and wearable for practically any style. The styles are timeless while keeping up with the times. It takes true artists to accomplish such a thing in the world of couture.

Fringe on fringe on fringe!! Definitely a big trend this Fall and Winter, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a hardcore fan of the fringe. *heart eyes*

One of my favorite pieces from the entire collection had to be the deep blue, velvet blazer with black satin detailing. It’s perfect for the holiday season and the Fall/Winter season all together. It’s a great statement piece that speaks volumes not in the patterns, but in the color and material. How gorgeous is this!

The collection had a good color balance with neutrals such as jean, black, and grey as well as pops of colors from pastels to heavily pigmented blues and greens. The best part was that every piece, regardless of pattern or color, could be styled in several ways. Again, the versatility is admirable.

The event was so much fun, and I enjoyed catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. It was so nice to catch up with Janie and Blair Flowers of The Perennial Style, and to meet Kelley Barnes of The Style Barn as well as Leni Wagers of Brasillian Doll Blogger. These ladies are so sweet and even more gorgeous in person- definitely take a look at their own blogs and check out their style!

It was so nice to finally meet Kelley Barnes! She’s such a sweetheart and joy to talk to.

Leni Wagers is such a character! She’s as fun as she is kind and it was a pleasure to meet her.

Now if you guys follow my Instagram, then you know I just made a major change to my look. (If you aren’t following me already, then go ahead and follow to see what I’m up to when I’m not blogging!) If you didn’t know and have been oblivious to my past few photos, then you should know…

I CHOPPED MY HAIR! Yes, I am now sporting a bob, and I love it. It took some getting used to, but I’m head over heels, all for it. It’s a different vibe, but it’s perfect for me. Let me know in the comments or on my Twitter if you’d like me to put together an article about how I style my short hair!

Here’s my full look for the Grand Opening. I wanted something chic but simple, so I opted for a white, cropped yet over-sized, crochet sweater and contrasted it with dark jeggings. To dress it up, I went for my strapped, platform, nude, suede heels (a mouthful, I know) and my black and white purse with gold hardware. It’s pretty neutral, but chic and put together. Pro-tip: whenever you have an event for which you aren’t sure what to wear, you can never go wrong with a black and white ensemble! I wanted to go for the cool city-girl look, so hopefully that worked! 🙂

Spotlight: Interview with Elle Senior Market Editor

Hello, hello, friends! Guess who’s back?

Hint- it’s me. I run this place. Who else would it be? *laughs to self*

Ah, anyway, I’m back with a spotlight interview with someone very special. In my POLO x Elle article, you guys read all about my night at the POLO: Ralph Lauren Grand Opening hosted with Elle, and you know that I got to meet the Senior Market Editor, Jade Frampton.

You may also know that I got to chat with her in an interview about the new collection, her job, what advice she has for those aspiring to enter any part of the fashion industry, and much more. Read on to find out what else Jade Frampton and I got to discuss!

Kay B: What are your thoughts on the new Ralph Lauren collection for the holidays?

Jade Frampton: I love it! I love the new direction that Ralph Lauren is going in for Polo. It’s really sophisticated, and it has a lot of free formed themes- something we haven’t seen from them which I love. It still keeps that classic Polo feeling, a little preppy and sophisticated, but it’s really great for day to evening looks. It works for all styles, so there’s something for everyone and every situation.

Kay B: I was talking about that earlier and noticing that as well. Ralph Lauren is one of my favorite brands, and the versatility and the fact that it can acclimate to any time and any person makes it like a blank canvas, allowing anyone to style their looks to suit themselves.

JF: Right, and this (in reference to her own outfit) is all Ralph Lauren. It doesn’t necessarily look the way it was styled on the mannequin, but it’s unique to me. So I think everyone can really make their own look, which I do love about this [collection].

KB: What’s your favorite piece that you have seen tonight from the grand opening?

JF: I’m actually obsessed with the track pants, and I’ll tell you why. Track pants are actually a huge trend for next spring. They’re everywhere on every runway, so it’s all about wearing the track pant with a sophisticated top, wearing it in a non-traditional way. So, I’m all about the track pant right now, and I love the ones on display for the collection because they’re all black and I think they’re really sophisticated. It’s how I could get behind a track pant, whereas I don’t think I could get behind a red track pant.

KB: What statement piece must every woman have in her closet this season?

JF: I think that an amazing knit is always the best thing to have in your wardrobe for Fall, I just think it’s so great. We saw it so much on the runway in so many different ways, from skirts, to dresses, to sweaters, and I find it chic, comfy, and it looks good on everyone.

KB: What is your favorite part of your job as Elle Senior Market Editor?

JF: I think my favorite part of my job is to see things first, I mean, I love that! It’s so exciting when you’re at a show and you know that while there are a lot of other people watching it with you, you’re seeing something for the very first time. I think my favorite part of my job is meeting new designers, really young designers that haven’t had a chance to be seen by a lot of people. It almost feels like you’re discovering them and getting to meet them and seeing their progression from being a new designer. Someone like Jason Wu, a new designer, and then really blossoming in his brand and now being the head designer at Boss and just seeing the progression of people’s careers is really inspiring.

KB: What advice to you have for anyone wanting to enter the fashion industry?

JF: Intern. That’s basically what you do. It’s the only way that you can have a resume built up, it’s the only way to build up a resume to get a job. If you wanted to work at a magazine, it’s interning at a magazine, definitely. I think in any industry, like design, it’s interning, but it’s really interning at as many places as possible as opposed to staying at one place. Get as many experiences as possible. That’s good to know not only what you want to do, but also what you don’t want to do. For instance, I interned as a jewelry intern and it wasn’t for me. It was too small, things kept dropping, things go missing. I like tangible, big items, and I don’t want to lose anything- jewelry made me too nervous! So, definitely intern to know what you want to do and what you don’t want to do.
