STRUT into Spring Break + Giveaway!!

Happy Studded Collar Sunday, friends!

I hope you all had a lovely, restful weekend, and are ready to take on the new week. If you guys are in the same position as me, then this is your last week until Spring Break- a week every student is eagerly looking forward to, I’m sure. Now, ladies, whether you gals are getting ready for an exotic vacation or a fun-filled staycation, you’re all probably planning your outfits and hoping to look your best (vacations and breaks equals pictures galore).

So, I partnered up with Strut to bring you guys a fun lookbook of stellar looks that you can look to for inspiration as you plan out what you’ll be wearing this Spring Break season. These three outfits are perfect for the spring season and range from casual to dressy. I think that’s enough chit-chat, so let’s spring into it! (:

Cool & Casual

image

I absolutely love this simple, grey, jersey dress. I know spring is usually all about color, especially pastels, but the neutral color truly makes this dress the perfect blank canvas with so many styling possibilities. Because of it’s simplicity, I opted for a gold, multi-layered necklace so as to add a little edge and umph to the neckline.

image

Okay, my favorite part of the dress is the oversized, wide arm holes. It’s the perfect opportunity to show a little bit of detail while maintaining a classy look. I decided to wear a triangular, black lace bralette under the dress, and result was fabulous. I love, love, love the lacy detail peeking though, adding a darker color to the look and some lace for femininity.

imageimage image image image image

I don’t know about you, but I am quite the fan of this brown, fringe crossbody purse. It’s simple, but adds dimension to this simple outfit with the large, flowy tassels. It’s such a cute accessory, and it’s perfect for a casual, on the go outfit.

Edgy Boho Babe

image image

This outfit is a bit dressier than the first but still airs on the casual side. All the while, it’s nice enough to wear out to a nice lunch with the girls or just a fun day out on the town. This romper is another neutral, yes, but the floral pattern ties in the newness of spring perfectly.

image image image image image image

One of my favorite parts of this outfits is the balance of softness and edge. The romper is floral, feminine, and flowy, and my pointed toed flats are soft, simple and muted black. Plus, my cream, lace bandeau peaking through makes this outfit even flirtier. On the other hand, my major statement necklace is sharp and eye catching with the geometric shapes, and the black, circular, wide rimmed hat adds some attitude. I’m also obsessed with the tortoise patterned wayfarers. Yes, I’m wearing a hat and sunglasses, but you can’t be too protected, right?

image image image image image image image

All I have to say about this purse is that it is to die for. Take it from day to night in a heartbeat, and the gold hardware is precious. Versatile and lovely.

image image image

All Dressed Up

image image image image image

This is, without a doubt, my favorite outfit in this lookbook. If you guys must know one thing about me, it’s that I’m a sucker for dresses and florals. Needless to say, this little number stole my heart in a flash. It’s very flowy, so opportunity for flattery is very present. The hemline is ever so slightly high-low, with makes the dress a bit more dramatic. I dressed it up with some black, strappy wedges and a soft gold clutch and was ready to hit the streets.image image image image image

Ok, I am head over heels, madly in love with these sunnies. They’re silver and reflective, but my favorite part is the fact that it’s round with a cat eye frame all at once. The wire on the edge of the frames is so edgy, and I love, love love it.

image image image

Pro-tip: If you guys are looking for some comfortable, black, strappy AND edgy wedges/heels, then go buy a pair from Strut. They have the best shoes that are both gorgeous and comfy. Beauty isn’t always pain, ladies!

image

Because of the keyhole design on the front of this dress, I chose a long statement necklace so as not to distract from the pattern and gorgeous cutout. I also chose a complimentary gold clutch to match.

image image image image

I hope you guys enjoyed this little Spring Break lookbook Strut and I put together for you guys! I had so much fun, and a big thanks to Strut for having some fun with me. I do have a little surprise for you guys, too.

POLO: Ralph Lauren x Elle

Happy November, my darlings!!

It’s Kay B here with another fun article for you guys. About two weeks ago I attended the POLO: Ralph Lauren Grand Opening at the Northpark Center, which was hosted by Ralph Lauren and Elle Magazine’s Senior Market Editor, Jade Frampton. This was a grand opening unlike any other with a live fashion exhibition of the new holiday collection by Polo Ralph Lauren, an on-site artist sketching guests upon request, a lively DJ, and so much more.

IMG_5823 IMG_5821 IMG_5825IMG_5814

Fun Fact: This live model and I wanted to take a picture together, but she couldn’t leave her platform, so I hopped onto her platform, modeled with her in the store and then snapped a photo together. We weren’t sure if it was allowed, but all worked out and we had fun in the process! (:

IMG_5816

The pieces from the collection had an overall modern-classic vibe. What I love and always have loved about Ralph Lauren is that their clothing, accessories, etc. are incredibly sophisticated, versatile, and wearable for practically any style. The styles are timeless while keeping up with the times. It takes true artists to accomplish such a thing in the world of couture.

IMG_5826 IMG_5843 IMG_5836

Fringe on fringe on fringe!! Definitely a big trend this Fall and Winter, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a hardcore fan of the fringe. *heart eyes*

IMG_5842IMG_5818

One of my favorite pieces from the entire collection had to be the deep blue, velvet blazer with black satin detailing. It’s perfect for the holiday season and the Fall/Winter season all together. It’s a great statement piece that speaks volumes not in the patterns, but in the color and material. How gorgeous is this!

The collection had a good color balance with neutrals such as jean, black, and grey as well as pops of colors from pastels to heavily pigmented blues and greens. The best part was that every piece, regardless of pattern or color, could be styled in several ways. Again, the versatility is admirable.

IMG_5639

Elle Senior Market Editor, Jade Frampton, and I after our interview.

While at the grand opening, I had the opportunity to interview the Senior Market Editor of Elle, Jade Frampton. To see what we talked about and get the inside scoop on what one of the biggest trends will be this spring, click here to read my interview with Jade Frampton.
IMG_5830

Elle shared their November issue with the party and took a brief moment to skim through and soak up some of the sweet details they had to share with us readers. Make sure you pick up a copy if you haven’t already!

The event was so much fun, and I enjoyed catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. It was so nice to catch up with Janie and Blair Flowers of The Perennial Style, and to meet Kelley Barnes of The Style Barn as well as Leni Wagers of Brasillian Doll Blogger. These ladies are so sweet and even more gorgeous in person- definitely take a look at their own blogs and check out their style!

IMG_5835

Blair Flowers of The Perennial Style and I cheesing it up. (:

IMG_5807

It was so nice to finally meet Kelley Barnes! She’s such a sweetheart and joy to talk to.

IMG_5805

Leni Wagers is such a character! She’s as fun as she is kind and it was a pleasure to meet her.

Now if you guys follow my Instagram, then you know I just made a major change to my look. (If you aren’t following me already, then go ahead and follow to see what I’m up to when I’m not blogging!) If you didn’t know and have been oblivious to my past few photos, then you should know…

IMG_5837

I CHOPPED MY HAIR! Yes, I am now sporting a bob, and I love it. It took some getting used to, but I’m head over heels, all for it. It’s a different vibe, but it’s perfect for me. Let me know in the comments or on my Twitter if you’d like me to put together an article about how I style my short hair!

Here’s my full look for the Grand Opening. I wanted something chic but simple, so I opted for a white, cropped yet over-sized, crochet sweater and contrasted it with dark jeggings. To dress it up, I went for my strapped, platform, nude, suede heels (a mouthful, I know) and my black and white purse with gold hardware. It’s pretty neutral, but chic and put together. Pro-tip: whenever you have an event for which you aren’t sure what to wear, you can never go wrong with a black and white ensemble! I wanted to go for the cool city-girl look, so hopefully that worked! 🙂

IMG_5841 IMG_5822 IMG_5820 IMG_5802 IMG_5817IMG_5643 IMG_5815

Well, my loves, that’s it for this article! Be sure to check out Ralph Lauren’s new collection and all their other chic goodies here, and be sure to check out my social media- Instagram, Twitter, you know the drill. I’m super active there and I love talking to you guys, so that’s the best way to see what I’m up to and even connect with me! Also, sound off in the comments below with any ideas you all may have for articles you’d like to see. I’d love to hear from you. I love you all lots, and until next time…

Spotlight: Interview with Elle Senior Market Editor

Hello, hello, friends! Guess who’s back?

Hint- it’s me. I run this place. Who else would it be? *laughs to self*

Ah, anyway, I’m back with a spotlight interview with someone very special. In my POLO x Elle article, you guys read all about my night at the POLO: Ralph Lauren Grand Opening hosted with Elle, and you know that I got to meet the Senior Market Editor, Jade Frampton.

IMG_5639

You may also know that I got to chat with her in an interview about the new collection, her job, what advice she has for those aspiring to enter any part of the fashion industry, and much more. Read on to find out what else Jade Frampton and I got to discuss!

Kay B: What are your thoughts on the new Ralph Lauren collection for the holidays?

Jade Frampton: I love it! I love the new direction that Ralph Lauren is going in for Polo. It’s really sophisticated, and it has a lot of free formed themes- something we haven’t seen from them which I love. It still keeps that classic Polo feeling, a little preppy and sophisticated, but it’s really great for day to evening looks. It works for all styles, so there’s something for everyone and every situation.

Kay B: I was talking about that earlier and noticing that as well. Ralph Lauren is one of my favorite brands, and the versatility and the fact that it can acclimate to any time and any person makes it like a blank canvas, allowing anyone to style their looks to suit themselves.

JF: Right, and this (in reference to her own outfit) is all Ralph Lauren. It doesn’t necessarily look the way it was styled on the mannequin, but it’s unique to me. So I think everyone can really make their own look, which I do love about this [collection].

KB: What’s your favorite piece that you have seen tonight from the grand opening?

JF: I’m actually obsessed with the track pants, and I’ll tell you why. Track pants are actually a huge trend for next spring. They’re everywhere on every runway, so it’s all about wearing the track pant with a sophisticated top, wearing it in a non-traditional way. So, I’m all about the track pant right now, and I love the ones on display for the collection because they’re all black and I think they’re really sophisticated. It’s how I could get behind a track pant, whereas I don’t think I could get behind a red track pant.

KB: What statement piece must every woman have in her closet this season?

JF: I think that an amazing knit is always the best thing to have in your wardrobe for Fall, I just think it’s so great. We saw it so much on the runway in so many different ways, from skirts, to dresses, to sweaters, and I find it chic, comfy, and it looks good on everyone.

KB: What is your favorite part of your job as Elle Senior Market Editor?

JF: I think my favorite part of my job is to see things first, I mean, I love that! It’s so exciting when you’re at a show and you know that while there are a lot of other people watching it with you, you’re seeing something for the very first time. I think my favorite part of my job is meeting new designers, really young designers that haven’t had a chance to be seen by a lot of people. It almost feels like you’re discovering them and getting to meet them and seeing their progression from being a new designer. Someone like Jason Wu, a new designer, and then really blossoming in his brand and now being the head designer at Boss and just seeing the progression of people’s careers is really inspiring.

KB: What advice to you have for anyone wanting to enter the fashion industry?

JF: Intern. That’s basically what you do. It’s the only way that you can have a resume built up, it’s the only way to build up a resume to get a job. If you wanted to work at a magazine, it’s interning at a magazine, definitely. I think in any industry, like design, it’s interning, but it’s really interning at as many places as possible as opposed to staying at one place. Get as many experiences as possible. That’s good to know not only what you want to do, but also what you don’t want to do. For instance, I interned as a jewelry intern and it wasn’t for me. It was too small, things kept dropping, things go missing. I like tangible, big items, and I don’t want to lose anything- jewelry made me too nervous! So, definitely intern to know what you want to do and what you don’t want to do.

There you have it, darlings! It was so much fun to talk to her- she was so sweet and insightful. I hope you got as much out of the interview as I did, and don’t forget to pick up a copy of Elle’s November issue before the month is up! Until next time…

OOTN: Leaf It to Me

Hey there, friends! I hope you all are having a wonderful day or evening and are taking it easy this weekend.

Last night, I had the privilege of attending the Stanley Korshak Shakiversary party to celebrate the store’s one year anniversary of being in its new space. Check out my recap of the festivities here!

IMG_2096Happy SHAKiversary, Stanley Korshak!

I had just as much fun at the party as I did getting ready, so I thought to share with you guys my outfit and makeup details with you all.IMG_2128

I decided to go with a dark brown, smokey and earthy look. I thought that the colors would marry well with my leafy green romper and tan accentsIMG_2130

1. After applying my foundation and loose powder, I applied a bronze shadow all over my lid.

2. I then used an angled blush to apply a matte, dark chocolate-brown shadow on the outer half of my lid.

3. Next, I took a matte, medium shaded brown and applied it in my crease for definition.

Beauty Tip: After I applied the brown shadows to my outer corners and my crease, my bronze shadow was lost under the matte colors. Because I wanted my bronze shadow to pop more and brighten my eye, I re-applied the bronze shadow a little bit more with a smaller, angled shadow brush. The angle and small size helped to make my application more precise.

4. Once my shadows had set, I used black liquid liner on my eyelid to create a thick winged look. There are so many ways to create a winged liner look, so sound off in the comments or like this article if you would like for me to post a tutorial!

Beauty Tip: To make sure that your liquid liner won’t smudge, crease, or fade throughout the day or night, once the liner has dried, set it with a matching colored shadow! This will make your eyeliner last so much longer and maintain a fresh look.

5. I brushed and shaped my brows, and, to ensure that they stayed in place, I brushed them with a bit of clear brow gel. I filled my brows in with a mix of dark brown and black brow powder; dark brown alone would be a tad too light, and black alone would be too harsh.

6. Finally, I applied a red-brown liquid lipstick to go with the earthy look.

IMG_1899

Now, let’s move on to the outfit details!

IMG_2148

Romper: H&M | Blazer: Jessica Simpson | Shoes: Steve Madden | Purse: Ralph Lauren | Necklace: Forever 21 |

IMG_2135 IMG_2140 IMG_2138IMG_2141

I simply can not get over this romper from H&M’s Conscious line- it’s so fun and perfect for the summer. Rompers are pretty tricky because you are basically wearing a top and bottom sewn together in one size, so you can’t pick and choose the size of the top and bottom. This, however, is the first romper that I have tried on and loved the fit. Not only is the tailoring close to perfect, this leafy romper is very comfortable! I added the tan belt to define my waist a bit more because without it, the romper appeared to be a straight cut. The addition of a belt to most outfits is a great way to quickly add some shape and provide the illusion of an hourglass figure.
IMG_2152 IMG_2146 IMG_2144

My favorite part of this romper has to be the leaf pattern. It is such a fresh, fun look, and I think it could definitely be dressed up or down! For the party, I wore it in a more formal and dressy fashion, but I can’t wait to wear it again and try out a more casual look! I’ll update you all on how that goes… (:
IMG_2143

Thank you guys so much for reading, and I hope you liked the mini makeup tutorial! Like and/or comment on this post is you would like for me to do more makeup tutorials, and also let me know what other types of articles you all would like to see from me! I love you guys so so much, and until next time…IMG_2149

Happy SHAKiversary!

Hello hello, sweet sunshines, and happy Friday! I hope you all are having a wonderful start to your weekend. I have been so busy recently, and just returned from a week in California! It was my first time to visit the Sunshine State, and I am already looking forward to the next time I can travel out there. I’ll be sharing a recap of my visit soon, so be on the look out for that! (:

Until then, I want to share with you all my recap of last night’s events. Stanley Korshak is a high-end store in Dallas that sells designer clothing for men and women such as Alice+Olivia, Rag and Bone, and Zac Posen. Stanley Korshak also sells bridal gowns and home goods. A year ago this weekend, Stanley Korshak revamped their setting and opened up in a new space, so of course they hosted a party with The Perennial Style sisters and Young Teens Against Cancer to celebrate their one year SHAKiversary! IMG_2096IMG_1803 IMG_1805 IMG_1798_2 It was my first time into the new store, and it is a gorgeous space. The layouts are fresh, clean, and fun, the store is bright and vibrant with its abundance of lights and windows, and most importantly, the clothing, shoes, and accessories are to die for, of course! IMG_1800_2 IMG_1799_2 IMG_1812 IMG_1814_2

How cute is this layout! I love the three varying dress styles as well as the feminine and artistic backdrop for the center mannequin.

IMG_1822 IMG_1823_2

It’s all in the details: What I noticed is that parts of the store are sectioned according to the designer. I think that is such a great detail that can be appreciated as it makes the shopping experience so much easier and more enjoyable for shoppers!

IMG_1824

The entirety of the front half and back half of the store is lined with tall windows from the floor to the ceiling. It provided such a welcoming and lively ambience.

IMG_1829 IMG_1825_2

The jewelry at the Shak varied from simple to formal and would suit anyone’s style! Definitely one of my favorite parts of the store. IMG_1867IMG_2095I had the chance to catch up with the Flowers sisters (from left to right: Ellen Flowers, Janie Flowers, and Blair Flowers) of the Perennial Style, and it was so lovely to see them again. They all looked gorgeous as usual and were as sweet as ever!

I had such a wonderful time at the SHAKiversary party, and I look forward to what the next year holds for Stanley Korshak! Thank you so much to Ellen Flowers for extending an invitation to me. What a great event it was! If you want details about what I wore to the party, check out my outfit post here! If you liked this article, don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe! Feel free to check out my Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to keep up with me when I’m not blogging away. Thanks a bunch for reading, my loves, and until next time… IMG_1898 Stay Fab, Kay B xx.

Sweet Valentine: Daytime Look

Hello, hello, hello my darlings, and Happy New Year!! I apologize for being unable to ring in the new year with you all and for the low supply of new posts, but you know well enough that I am never far from you and return as quickly as possible. (: I hope that 2014 holds fond memories for you all and that new ventures, lessons and sweet times lie ahead in 2015.

Welcome to my first post of 2015! (cue the confetti) With the first major holiday of the year already a month behind us, we have Valentine’s Day to look forward to. Yes, even if you do not have a significant other you can still expect to have fun on V-Day! Whether you will be spending the day with your lovie or taking on the town with your best girl friends, you can still look killer while doing it.

IMG_4642[1]

Dress: H&M | Shoes: Steve Madden | Jewelry: Charming Charlie | Nail Polish: Maybelline ColorShow

Valentine’s Day dawns the most pink, red and white than any other day of the year, but you do not necessarily need to put together an outfit that makes you look like you covered yourself in glue and frolicked through Hallmark’s Valentine’s Day isle. I’ve put together a daytime look that is perfect to wear while with your girls or your boyf and it includes the festive colors in a more wearable fashion. (:

IMG_4648 IMG_4649

Note that my dress is not all red, white, or pink, but within the pattern, pink is the predominant color. I accented my look with neutral-toned, gemed jewelry to add a touch of formality. The look is sweet, feminine, and is perfect for a fun day with your special loves.

IMG_4654

Believe it or not, this is my first bubble skirt purchase (a bubble skirt is one that comes out at the dress’s waist line and has a rounded figure), and I really like it! I appreciate the placement of the waistline- dresses that have their wait’s seam at your natural waist are some of the most flattering as opposed to an empire wait that makes your torso, at times, appear smaller and your mid-section wider (depending on your body type).

IMG_4655 IMG_4656 IMG_4657 IMG_4658

When wearing a dress as busy as this, it’s best to choose a solid colored shoe. That’s not to say that the shoe itself can’t make it’s own statement. These suede, ankle-strap, open toed platforms from Steve Madden are simple in their neutral tone, but don’t fail to stand out with its thick straps and heel.

IMG_4660 IMG_4659 IMG_4668 IMG_4669IMG_4653

I opted for a soft, romantic look since this is a daytime outfit. I love how the muted fuchsia lip pops but doesn’t appear harsh with the other softened makeup features. A light rosy blush and a soft smoky eye married beautifully with this ensemble. Like this post and comment below if you want to see this make-up tutorial!

IMG_4664 IMG_4662 IMG_4661

Just some candids of me being… well, me. (:

Well, my darlings, that’s all I have for you today! I hope this inspired you somehow and that you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed putting this together for you. Remember that regardless of whether or not you have a Valentine, you should show some extra love to others- it’s what keeps our world moving after all!

Little Black Dress Designer Fashion Show

Hello, sweet friends, Happy Studded Collar Sunday!

I’d like to start off with a few announcements and thank-yous as well (Have to have an attitude for gratitude!)

First, thank you all so incredibly much for your kind feedback and the love you sent me about the Tootsies Homecoming Lookbook! I had so much fun putting it together for you all, and for your reaction to be so immensely positive was overwhelming. Plus, several of you guys sent me tweets and messages saying it helped you compose a fabulous ensemble for your next dance! I love you all so much and I’m overjoyed that you all enjoyed the post. I’ll do more projects like this in the future for you. (:

I would also send another big thank you to Tootsies for the opportunity to work with you all! I felt like a princess and the dresses, suits, accessories and more were gorgeous. It was such a fun experience and I am eternally grateful for it.

Now, I have one quick announcement before we dive right into the post. I have a new Instagram and Twitter! I’m switching over to an account I already have set up. My new Instagram is @16kayb, and my username for Twitter is also @16KayB. Go follow those accounts if you haven’t already, and in a couple of days I will change the usernames from @16kayb to @studdedcollar for consistency. I’m really active on my social media links, so go check them out. Now, let’s get started with all the fun!

Show1 Show2

Dress: Pimkie | Shoes: Guess | Necklace: Swarovski | Clutch: Mom’s Closet

Bracelet/Ring: Charming Charlie| Earings: Gifted

You all may or may not know that the past two weeks have been occupied by Fashion Week in the world’s various capitals- first New York, then London, and today Milan’s came to a close. While I was unable to attend New York Fashion Week this year, I had the chance to have some local Fashion Week fun! I attended the Little Black Dress Designer Fashion Show and Party at Tootsies earlier this week. Several of Dallas’s fashion elite attended, and I had an amazing time meeting them and enjoing the show!

Show5 Show9 Show10

Such an honor to meet designer Esé (left) and one of Dallas’s fashion elite, Christine (right)

The fashion show was hosted by Tootsies for the Little Black Dress Designer Foundation. This organization gives students and up-and-coming designers the opportunity to re-invent the classic Little Black Dress to potentially win an academic scholarship, funding for their brand, and career networking opportunities to kickstart their career. It’s an amazing association that has already awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to students since it was founded by Jeff Shell n 2008. Tell me this isn’t an amazing concept? (Seriously don’t, because you’d be dead wrong.) (:

Show6IMG_1074

Had an amazing time attending the show with my beautiful best friend (:

I opted for a black dress because not only was it the theme of the show, but the little black dress is a classic statement. This gorgeous dress has a classic simplicity and became my canvas for the evening. I love that the underlay of the dress is like a bandage, or body-con, dress, while the overlay is a flowy, flirty, sheer material that gives the dress a higher level of formality and grace.

I feel like when girls wear black they always have a pop of loud color(s). That is totally okay (in moderation), but another option is to add color variety through metallics! I wore this gorgeous silver diamond drop necklace from Swawrovski, diamond studs, and then switched it up with gold Guess shoes and an all black clutch with divine gold and diamond detailing. My ring and bracelet had golden and jewel accents as well. It takes a plain black dress from drab to fab without wearing a fluorescent pink belt or crimson blue pumps. (:

Show18 Show19 Show17

I had an unbelievably wonderful time at the show, and I thank Tootsies immensely. The show was beautiful and the dresses were to die for. Now, ladies, I want you to remember this quote- it’s golden:

“One is never over-dressed or underdressed in a little black dress,” ~ Karl Lagerfeld

Show16

Much love to you all.

Stay Fab,

Kay B xx
