Kicking it at Kick Pleat

Bonjour, mes amies! Kay B here with another article for you all. I hope you all are feeling more rested than I am at the start of the new week- I feel like I have been on the run every day since last week, and this weekend was no different.

On the bright side, I was kept busy with lots of fun and exciting activities- one of them being going to Kick Pleat in Austin to interview designer Miranda Bennett!

Photography by Angelica C.

We had a great chat together, and you can read all about that interview here.

For those of you who are don’t know, Kick Pleat is a women’s clothing, shoes and accessories store with an airy aesthetic and clean design that will transport you to the finest of high-fashion dreams.

The exterior and interior design of the store speak to the vibe of the clothes and accessories that grace the racks and shelves of Kick Pleat. A woman will walk in through their doors and immediately feel empowered to breathe life into her unique persona through the many ensembles and pieces that Kick Pleat has to offer. I had so much fun looking around and venturing through the shop.

Each section of the store has its own voice and speaks to each customer uniquely and individually. Just as every woman has her individuality, you won’t find anything like what you will discover within the white mod walls of Kick Pleat.

My favorite parts of the store were the dressing room and the shoe stadium, by far. Can we just talk about this stadium for a minute? Goals, without a doubt.

Of course, I want to share my outfit with you all from my Kick Pleat visit. It was a daytime event, so I decided not to dress up too much while keeping it light and classy on sweltering spring day. (Seriously, “spring” in Texas is in the upper 80’s…)

Top: Candie’s | Shorts: H&M | Booties: | Coach | Sunglasses: Aldo | Purse: Mix No. 6

It was such a beautiful day outside, though I’m almost certain that Texas skipped the spring season and went straight for summer. So I wanted to wear light and loose garments while still looking put together. I chose for my makeup look of the day to be a light one as well, in regards to color tones as well as application. The Mac Pro Longwear foundation is my holy grail on beating hot days such as Friday. Let me know if you want to hear more about my makeup and skincare routine!

Can you tell that I was (and still am) obsessed with this shoe stadium? I can’t get over it- and don’t believe I ever will…

My outfit for this  day was pretty neutral in my blouse and booties, so I brought a pop of color to my ensemble with my cinch waist shorts from H&M. I love these because while they are a longer pair of shorts, they’re loose and airy enough to wear on the hottest of day. Not to mention, the cinched waist is not only a beautiful addition of detail, but is also very flattering. When worn with a loose shirt tucked in or even a fitted blouse, it draws attention to your waistline and makes it look smaller in your mid-section

If that doesn’t win you over, then you should know that these shorts have pockets. AND a drawstring bow. You’re welcome.

I had so much fun visiting Kick Pleat, interviewing Miranda Bennett, and shooting for this article. I’m so happy to be back on the blog and can’t wait to share even more with you guys. Look out for some exciting new additions and changes around here soon… I think you guys will like what I have in store for you all. (: Don’t forget to keep up with me on all my socials (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook) and very soon we’ll be adding YouTube to the mix! Also, big thanks to Angie for the photography- go ahead and check out all of her photography here.

Sending lots of love to you all, and wishing you a wonderful rest of your day or night! Until next time, lovies…

Spring Into It

Hey babes, and Happy Spring!

Sunday was the first day of Spring, my absolute favorite season. It’s a time for new beginnings, the turning of a new leaf, and everything is in full bloom. It’s absolutely beautiful and is a great, fresh start. You know what else has a fresh start? Fashion, of course. Everything is brighter, fresher, and there are so many more styles to explore.

With that, I’d like to share five of my favorite must-have items on my wishlist for the season from a store by same name, Spring. Spring is a fashion forward, online store for men, women, and children. It has items from all of your favorite companies and from cool, new brands that you are yet to discover. All the following items in my spring wishlist are from Spring’s accessories page. Click here to head over and see it all for yourself! A picture is worth a thousand words, so enough of this chit chat- let’s spring into it!

1. Sun’s Out Shades Out

Illesteva_Boca II Pink

Boca II in Pink by Illesteva

As the springtime comes, so does the sun! A pair of fun sunglasses are definitely a must-have this season, and I particularly love this pair by Illesteva. As you guys know, I am a sucker for a good pair of sunglasses, especially a funky set of frames. This pair caught my eye because of the gorgeous color. Pink is a color that compliments almost every skin tone, and this set is particularly on trend because it matches the color of the year, Rose Quartz.

2. About Time…

Daniel Wellington Classic sheffield rose gold watch 36 mm

Classic Sheffield Rose Gold Watch, 36mm by Daniel Wellington

This spring, I’ll be an even bigger advocate for arm candy. A great way to spice up your look without stacking just bracelets is adding a watch- stylish and functional. Daniel Wellington is a brand that I have loved for quite a while and is one that I seem to be seeing around more often as of late. The sleek, simple design is stunning, and is the perfect watch for any occasion. The best part is that the bands are interchangeable. This is what I love the most because DW has several gorgeous bands that can take your watch from simply sophisticated to vibrant and fun without having to change your entire watch itself. Talk about versatility!

3. Sharp Elegance

JOOMI LIM_Lost Innocence Spike Necklace with cream pearls..gold_silver spikes

Lost Innocence Spike Necklace with Cream Pearls by Joomi Lim

Chokers are a vintage trend that made a comeback last season, but this version of the trend takes this look to a whole new level. I think it’s pretty evident that I love studs and collared shirts given that the name of my blog combines the two details. Now, when you’re able to combine the two or bring them together in some way, you have won the style game in my book. That’s why I love this studded, pearl choker by Joomi Lim. It’s the perfect way to spice up a simple top or add an extra umph to a collared shirt.

3. Bag It Up

3.1 Phillip Lim_Pashli Medium Satchel- White-peach

Pashli Medium Satchel in White-Peach by 3.1 Phillip Lim

A purse is definitely a necessity this season, and I think that versatility should be found in anything you wear or use to accessorize your look. This shoulder bag also doubles as a crossbody with an extra long shoulder strap, which allows you to wear it however you choose. This white-peach color is fresh, bright, and airy and compliments both casual and dressy outfits. I love the symmetrical and geometric design of this purse as it adds some edge to an already soft and feminine bag. This purse, and others like it, will be high up on my list for sure.

5. Dawn Your Crown

Wren+Glory_Spike Halo

As most of you guys know (or don’t know), I’m a senior in high school. Sometimes, I have days that I wake up and feel super lazy, so I just brush my hair and leave it down, simply, or throw it up in a bun and rush out the door. This spring is a better time than any to spice up any simple hair look with a textured headband, halo, or simple crown such as these by Wren + Glory. I love the elegant yet fun look of these headbands and the various styles that can be made with them.

Well, that’s my Spring Wishlist of must-haves for you guys! I hope you all liked it, and let me know in the poll below which item was your favorite. Also, feel free to share in the comments below what items are on your Spring wishlist either from the store, Spring, for this season, or both! Go on and check out Spring’s Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest for more spring inspiration. Thanks so much for reading, and I’ll chat with you guys soon. Until next time…

NYFW 2016: Strutting the Streets

Hi there, lovies!

Yes, I’m back. For those of you who thought that I had died or changed my name and moved to Switzerland, you were very wrong and I’m definitely not in Switzerland. I know I haven’t been on my A-game but I have returned and boy do I have plans for you all this year. So, to catch up on everything that I’ve missed… Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Happy Valentine’s Day. Now, let’s get to work. (:

With the month of February comes the start of Fashion Week season for 2016’s Fall/Winter collections. This past Thursday, New York Fashion Week came to a close and the shows were magnificent. Of course, all the talk surrounding Fashion Week focuses on what’s being displayed on stage, but what about the art that’s being shared off stage?

Think back to Kindergarten art class. You walked into class ready to create the next masterpiece that expresses your young and unique individuality, and you would have it shown in the best museum on earth (your parents’ office or the kitchen fridge.) Each student had their own style of artistry and it was a hodgepodge of greatness. This is basically what street style during fashion week is like. Everyone puts together their unique artistry and shows it off proudly. It’s nothing like you’ve ever seen before and definitely one of my favorite parts of fashion week. Let’s take a look at some of the best, most individual, and one of a kind looks from one of the best runways in the world: the streets of New York.

Captivating Coats

wowza coat3 wowza coat2 wowza coat_rainbow wowza coat

These coats are proof that you don’t have to conceal your fashionable artistry in the cold. Each makes a statement and immediately captures your attention. I particularly love the colorful, fun fur coats. They’re a great way to spice up a monochrome outfit while staying cozy in the winter weather.

woMENS-wear

woMENSwear2 woMENSwear

You know what they say- anything men can do, women can do better (most often in heels, too.) These feminine takes on men’s wear are incredibly flattering and elegant. The cream ensemble shows the formal side of feminized men’s wear with a slimming, cuffed pant and a cream blazer with inverted lapels. The other outfit displays more of a comfortable, business casual, yet chic alternative. The boyfriend fit, pinstriped blazer beautifully compliments the dark ensemble as well as the horizontally striped blouse.

Rocking Rainbows

wowza bag rainbow rainbow2 rainbow4

I simply love these looks and accessories because they brighten up the streets beautifully. Yes, some of the outfits have different colors in various pieces, and yes, some have chosen to wear one bright color according to the color of their hair, but it works! The trick? One item has the color focus. For instance, in this last photo, the dress has the color focus because it is the largest piece and is predominantly white and sky blue. The other pieces are simply ornaments on this fashion tree and they all marry with the color scheme.

Playful Patterns

patterns rainbow3 rainbow5

These patterns are a great way to ease into a bold style and they don’t draw too much attention away from the outfit as a whole or, more importantly, you! The key is to put your pattern focus on one item and let the other clothing articles work with your patterned clothing of choice. Above all, have fun with it!

Terrific Textures

textures2 textures

Textures area perfect way to liven up any outfit. They immediately add dimension, depth, and edge to any outfit and turns your ensemble around entirely. I love this netted, black skirt paired with a black and white, houndstooth sweater with fur trim. Though there are several textures and patterns, it’s not too busy and still looks incredibly put together. This is because there is one color scheme and the shapes and textures are all geometric.

Ladies in Color

lady in red lady in pink lady in black emerald queenlady in white

These looks are so sleek and I love that one color is the focus in these looks. It’s simple, yet each outfit has a different design that takes a solid color to a whole new level. Some people fear monochrome outfits because they may tend to look boring and one-dimensional. These are some solid examples that disprove this idea. Yes, it’s possible to look like a sheet of construction paper, but if you choose one color and piece together different items that have their own edge, you will come together with an edgy look, classy vibe, or whatever you please.

Whenever Fashion Weeks come around, we love to fawn over the designs that grace the runways, but the streets are a runway of their own. I love that there are weeks dedicated to the art of fashion and that everyone is so fearlessly themselves. I hope you all enjoyed these looks, and let me know which style was your favorite! I love the textures and monochrome maybe I’ll try to combine the two soon. (: I’ll be writing again soon, so don’t stray too far, my darlings!

Sweet Valentine: Daytime Look

Hello, hello, hello my darlings, and Happy New Year!! I apologize for being unable to ring in the new year with you all and for the low supply of new posts, but you know well enough that I am never far from you and return as quickly as possible. (: I hope that 2014 holds fond memories for you all and that new ventures, lessons and sweet times lie ahead in 2015.

Welcome to my first post of 2015! (cue the confetti) With the first major holiday of the year already a month behind us, we have Valentine’s Day to look forward to. Yes, even if you do not have a significant other you can still expect to have fun on V-Day! Whether you will be spending the day with your lovie or taking on the town with your best girl friends, you can still look killer while doing it.

IMG_4642[1]

Dress: H&M | Shoes: Steve Madden | Jewelry: Charming Charlie | Nail Polish: Maybelline ColorShow

Valentine’s Day dawns the most pink, red and white than any other day of the year, but you do not necessarily need to put together an outfit that makes you look like you covered yourself in glue and frolicked through Hallmark’s Valentine’s Day isle. I’ve put together a daytime look that is perfect to wear while with your girls or your boyf and it includes the festive colors in a more wearable fashion. (:

IMG_4648 IMG_4649

Note that my dress is not all red, white, or pink, but within the pattern, pink is the predominant color. I accented my look with neutral-toned, gemed jewelry to add a touch of formality. The look is sweet, feminine, and is perfect for a fun day with your special loves.

IMG_4654

Believe it or not, this is my first bubble skirt purchase (a bubble skirt is one that comes out at the dress’s waist line and has a rounded figure), and I really like it! I appreciate the placement of the waistline- dresses that have their wait’s seam at your natural waist are some of the most flattering as opposed to an empire wait that makes your torso, at times, appear smaller and your mid-section wider (depending on your body type).

IMG_4655 IMG_4656 IMG_4657 IMG_4658

When wearing a dress as busy as this, it’s best to choose a solid colored shoe. That’s not to say that the shoe itself can’t make it’s own statement. These suede, ankle-strap, open toed platforms from Steve Madden are simple in their neutral tone, but don’t fail to stand out with its thick straps and heel.

IMG_4660 IMG_4659 IMG_4668 IMG_4669IMG_4653

I opted for a soft, romantic look since this is a daytime outfit. I love how the muted fuchsia lip pops but doesn’t appear harsh with the other softened makeup features. A light rosy blush and a soft smoky eye married beautifully with this ensemble. Like this post and comment below if you want to see this make-up tutorial!

IMG_4664 IMG_4662 IMG_4661

Just some candids of me being… well, me. (:

Well, my darlings, that’s all I have for you today! I hope this inspired you somehow and that you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed putting this together for you. Remember that regardless of whether or not you have a Valentine, you should show some extra love to others- it’s what keeps our world moving after all!

Homecoming Trends 2014 ft. Tootsies

Hello, darlings, Kay B here! I hope you’re all doing well today. (:

As you all may or may not know, I’ve collaborated with Tootsies for an exciting project and I’m so excited to release it to you all right now! I came up with four gorgeous looks showing off different styles using Tootsies’ latest merchandise for…. Homecoming!

For those who don’t know, Tootsies is a gorgeous, high-end, designer clothing store specializing in clothing, jewelry, shoes, and accessories. They have the hottest trends and the best in-store consultants to help make your shopping experience the absolute best. I’m so excited to share these looks with you and I know you must be anxious to see them, so without further ado, let’s get started!

1. Classic

Classic_2 Classic_3 Classic_5
Classic_7IMG_0049 IMG_0052 IMG_0053 IMG_0055 Classic_6

Dress: Alice and Olivia | Shoes: LK Bennett | Necklace: Ziio | Earrings: Noir | Purse: Franchi

Black and white is a classic, timeless combination when it comes to anything, especially apparel. Instead of going for the “Classic Little Black Dress,” I chose the Little White Dress (with some black detailing). The silhouette of this dress is extremely flattering- the seam right under the bust along with black, lace, triangular cutouts on the side will make your waist appear smaller. I think one of my favorite parts is the high neckline; it allowed me to wear the gorgeous statement necklace by Ziio. Because the ensemble is black and white, I wanted to have some fun with the jewelry, so though this necklace has a tribal feel to it, it’s not too loud and the colors marry gorgeously. I love mixing styles to form a collective theme!

P.S- can we just take a moment to fawn over those shoes? There are no words besides fabulous and flawless to describe these beauties.

2. Glam

Glam 1Glam 3 Glam 4 Glam 5IMG_0093 IMG_0087 IMG_0083 IMG_0065 Glam 6

Dress: Parker | Shoes: Pelle Moda | Necklace: Lisa Freede | Earrings: Noir | Purse: Franchi

Now, this look is probably the most fun of the four! I honestly wouldn’t typically go for such a bold look, but once I put it together, I felt so fun and ready to dance the night away. This sequin covered dress really sets itself apart from all others with its symmetrical pattern, flattering cut, and the fact that it is NOT ITCHY. Sequin dresses are notorious for being itchy, but I felt so comfortable. I really like that the dress isn’t extremely short because the sequins and deep-v neckline are already speaking volumes. Remember that if you want a totally bedazzled dress- let it hit you right above your knee or 1.5 inches above- you want to look classy and glamorous!

3. Edgy

Edgy 1

Edgy 2 Edgy 3 Edgy 4IMG_0103 IMG_0102 IMG_0095 IMG_0115Edgy 5

Dress: Alexis | Shoes: Stuart Weitzman | Earrings: Robert Lee Morris | Cuff: Pilar Olavem | Purse: Franchi

When most people think of an “edgy” style, leather, gold studs, chains, and moto jackets come to mind. However, you can look edgy, classy and formal without all the biker gear! It’s all in the details, darling, because they add up. I went for an all black ensemble with a pop of red in this gorgeous Franchi clutch. I love the gold studs on the clasp that add just enough dimension without overwhelming the whole look. As much as I love this clutch, my favorite aspect of this outfit is the fringe on this flawless Alexis dress. It’s different, adds movement to the straight silhouette, and definitely adds edge without losing any femininity. You see? This outfit is actually pretty simple, but the black, fringe, and red clutch with gold detailing are all you need to rock your Homecoming.

4. Surprise…

Alright. I only intended to make 3 looks for you all, but that’s no fun, right? So I have a fourth “surprise” look to share with you guys….

A jumpsuit!

Surprise 1 Surprise 2 Surprise 3 Surprise 4 Surprise 6IMG_0104 IMG_0102 IMG_0115 IMG_0124 Surprise 5

Jumpsuit: Black Halo | Shoes: Stuart Weitzman | Earrings: Claudia Lobao | Cuff: Pilar Olavem | Purse: Whiting Davis

I know. Most- if not all- of you were expecting to see an out of this world dress, a skirt and top combo, or even a maxi dress. A pantsuit? What is this? Well, darlings, it’s fashion, the unexpected, it’s redefining and it’s style. You do not have to wear a dress to homecoming, and you can look just as beautiful, just as feminine, and just as flawless in a gorgeous, well tailored pantsuit like this one. Leave a comment down below and tell me what you think about wearing a pantsuit to Homecoming!

I can not stress how important it is to dress so that your beautiful body is done justice and is well flattered, and in this jumpsuit that was not an issue.  The seam below the chest is well placed and makes my waist narrower and the wide pant leg makes me appear taller and smaller up top. I love the small v cutout along the neckline adding a feminine touch as well as dimension. What I found really unique were the front pockets! Rather than being on the sides which would make my hips look bulky, they were placed at the front of the suit- very well thought out. I went for gold details to compliment this all black ensemble. It makes the outfit look warmer as opposed to silver which would give off a cold vibe.

Team 2 Team

I can’t sign off without giving the most massive thank you to my dear friend and talented photographer  for this shoot, Allie Burns. She did an absolutely amazing job with the shoot and delivered photos beyond my expectations. She’s incredibly talented, and if you are looking for a photographer in the Dallas area, contact her!

Summertime Blues

Happy Saturday, everyone!

As promised, I have a new post today for you guys, and it’s the classic Outfit of the Day post. I just finished my first week of my junior year and, honestly, I loved it! The work load has increased, of course, but it was so great to catch up with my friends, meet all my new teachers, and jump right into all the fun the year has in store.

That work load I mentioned has me confined to my room doing homework in my oh, so fashionable Nike shorts and t-shirt, missing the days of summertime freedom. Although I’m loving the year so far, I am feeling a little blue about summer break being over. That said, here is a blue Outfit of the Day throwback to my last day of summer!

IMG_0578

Top: Forever 21

Skirt: Macy’s

Bracelet: Charming Charlie

IMG_0583 IMG_0574

I love this bangle bracelet from Charming Charlie. The blue gems accented with gold wiring work beautifully together, and I love that I can wear this bracelet higher on my arm than the typical bracelet or bangle. It adds a simple, subtle, yet unique twist.

IMG_0581

I love this maxi skirt because it’s definitely different from your basic skirt. First, the blue lace overlay is gorgeous with pink and red flowers thrown into the mix. The floral lace with a unique color theme is feminine and fun. Secondly, the fact that the lace overlay is of a maxi cut while the skirt underneath is short so unique! It makes the skirt more casual and makes your legs appear longer as opposed to a solid colored, single-material maxi skirt.

IMG_0579

From the front, this top is a basic cream tee with a little frocket. Then, you take a look at the back and it’s totally made of lace! As you can tell, I really like lace, and I love the variety in this outfit. Do note that it’s possible to have one print and vary its design in different pieces like I did here: I wore a lace skirt and lace backed top, but the laces are in slightly different patterns and colors. Both items still look put-together and simple! Depending on how you style patterns, you can wear any without it looking too busy. (:

I hope you are all enjoying your school year so far, and if you are on a holiday break, then I hope you are treasuring every moment! I may have the summer blues now, but I am honestly so excited for what’s to come this school year. (PS- Check out my last post to see how I prepared for the start of school!) Remember to keep those positive vibes and be the best you possible. (:

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset Until next time, my loves,

Flower Child

Good morning darlings, and Happy Tuesday!

IMG_9789

Top: Delia’s

Skirt: Forever 21

Belt: Cotton On

Sandals: Target

Bracelet: Nordstrom

Scrunchie: Forever 21

Yesterday I had a few errands to run and wanted a casual yet light and girly look. I opted for my new favorite floral skater skirt and a light scoop neck “Awkward” Tee. I tucked my top into my skirt and after looking in the mirror was happy with how it turned out.. but my outfit needed a kick.

IMG_9830

My skirt is a little high-waisted, and my waist is pretty small, so what better way to define and cinch in my waist than with an edgy belt? I love the gold studs on this belt. It adds some edge to an otherwise flirty-girly outfit (despite the immense amount of black.) The leather belt adds definition and a little something extra to the outfit.

IMG_9832 IMG_9831

Since I was on my feet quite a bit yesterday, I wanted to be comfortable so I wore my go-to black, strappy sandals. I have worn these so much this summer, I’m surprised I haven’t acquired a tan resembling the sandal straps yet!

IMG_9834

Because my outfit was predominantly black, I wanted to add some color without clashing with the flower colors. I chose this woven, blue, jeweled bracelet from Nordstrom. I really love the color of this bracelet and the simple gold, jeweled dome in the center. It’s simple and captivating.

IMG_9828 IMG_9827

If the floral skirt wasn’t enough, well say hello to my flower power scrunchie. Yes, scrunchies are back, and I wear them proudly. It was way too hot for me to wear my hear down (my hair is short, but it’s so dark and thick and it’s like wearing a woolly blanket on your head…) and I didn’t want to do anything elaborate to my hair, so I just braided my bangs straight back and held my ponytail with this scrunchie!IMG_9812

IMG_9866 IMG_9808

So you probably notice a lot of florals in my outfit, but you should know that floral prints are my favorite of all prints! They can translate into any season, and they can be styled in many different ways! Florals don’t always have to be girly, but you can definitely call me a somewhat girly Flower Child.

IMG_9810

Until next time, sunshines,

Stay Fab,

Kay B xx
