Flower Child

Good morning darlings, and Happy Tuesday!

IMG_9789

Top: Delia’s

Skirt: Forever 21

Belt: Cotton On

Sandals: Target

Bracelet: Nordstrom

Scrunchie: Forever 21

Yesterday I had a few errands to run and wanted a casual yet light and girly look. I opted for my new favorite floral skater skirt and a light scoop neck “Awkward” Tee. I tucked my top into my skirt and after looking in the mirror was happy with how it turned out.. but my outfit needed a kick.

IMG_9830

My skirt is a little high-waisted, and my waist is pretty small, so what better way to define and cinch in my waist than with an edgy belt? I love the gold studs on this belt. It adds some edge to an otherwise flirty-girly outfit (despite the immense amount of black.) The leather belt adds definition and a little something extra to the outfit.

IMG_9832 IMG_9831

Since I was on my feet quite a bit yesterday, I wanted to be comfortable so I wore my go-to black, strappy sandals. I have worn these so much this summer, I’m surprised I haven’t acquired a tan resembling the sandal straps yet!

IMG_9834

Because my outfit was predominantly black, I wanted to add some color without clashing with the flower colors. I chose this woven, blue, jeweled bracelet from Nordstrom. I really love the color of this bracelet and the simple gold, jeweled dome in the center. It’s simple and captivating.

IMG_9828 IMG_9827

If the floral skirt wasn’t enough, well say hello to my flower power scrunchie. Yes, scrunchies are back, and I wear them proudly. It was way too hot for me to wear my hear down (my hair is short, but it’s so dark and thick and it’s like wearing a woolly blanket on your head…) and I didn’t want to do anything elaborate to my hair, so I just braided my bangs straight back and held my ponytail with this scrunchie!IMG_9812

IMG_9866 IMG_9808

So you probably notice a lot of florals in my outfit, but you should know that floral prints are my favorite of all prints! They can translate into any season, and they can be styled in many different ways! Florals don’t always have to be girly, but you can definitely call me a somewhat girly Flower Child.

Warby Parker: Waterway Collection 2014

Hello lovelies!

August – the Sunday of summer, the final sip of iced tea, the last head toss toward the sun. Whatever August is to you, it’s here, and things are just heating up so don’t end your poolside staycation just yet; looking at the sun never looked so glamorous.

0471714_Warby_Shot_07_111_F

I’ve partnered with eyewear company Warby Parker to announce the exciting news of their new line. Let me introduce you to Warby Parker’s Eyewear Waterway Collection 2014. Inspired by warm coastal travels and poolside fun, the Waterway Collection is a breath of fresh air. These 5 styles will have you craving for an excuse to wear them 24/7, I know I’ve already thought of a few!

0471714_Warby_Shot_06_168_D

1. Percey

WP14010_PERCEY_500_SUN_TOPDOWN

WP14010_PERCEY_500_SUN_ANGLE

Here’s Percey. He’s versatile as he can be either sunglasses or perscription glasses. No matter the selected use, Percey will make you look trés chic around the clock. I personally love that the frames are clear: Warby Parker has totally modernized a clear frame that can at times be seen as outdated. Percey here looks way ahead of his time and style, and you can too with these sunnies.

2. Welty

WP14010_WELTY_373_OPT_TOPDOWN WP14010_WELTY_373_OPT_ANGLE

Meet Welty. Welty is dressed in Marine Pebble frames that seem to make beautiful, blue ocean waters and dream filled skies come together. Believe it or not, Welty is a pair of prescription glass frames; who knew that seeing so clearly could look so chic? The frame’s design is similar to that of the tortoise frame style, but what I like best is that it’s not in the dark brown or black color. Rather, it’s in dreamy, light blue hues and it will definitely brighten up your face and make you look captivating!

3. Griffin

WP14010_GRIFFIN_200_SUN_TOPDOWN WP14010_GRIFFIN_200_SUN_ANGLE

Now, Griffin is my favorite of the bunch. His whiskey tortoise frame and slightly tinted lenses give him a mysterious yet confident and edgy air. I love that the shape of the frame is a combination of wayfarer, round, and round frames to make it look more unique. Griffin doesn’t need to have a screaming design to stand out in the crowd, so definitely pick him up if you want to look simply outstanding.

4. Bensen

WP14010_BENSEN_353_OPT_TOPDOWN WP14010_BENSEN_353_OPT_ANGLE

Bensen. He’s smart, simple, but there are two sides to this fella. The top part of these prescription frames appears black and sleek, but there’s a cool, nearly ombré effect that makes it fade into a crystal blue at the bottom! Who wants basic, solid frames when you can have such chic dimension? If you want some prescription frames that are as unique as your style, check Bensen out!

5. Piper

WP14010_PIPER_923_SUN_TOPDOWN WP14010_PIPER_923_SUN_ANGLE

Last, but definitely not least, this is Piper! When I first met her, she gave off a very beachy, glamorous vibe. Her frames are in a beautiful Sand Castle color that are slightly translucent but have enough color to have you ache for sand in between your toes. I particularly love that the frames are slightly winged out at the top; it’s a flattering feature for any face! Whether your working on your tan at the beach or taking a day on the town with the girls, you’ll look fabulous with Piper. (And how unique is that color?! *swoon*)

0471714_Warby_Shot_03b_085_E

I don’t know about you, but after seeing this collection I want to take every single one home! I think my favorite part of this whole line is how unique each frame is! Like each person’s style, no frame is the same- it’s unique and makes it’s own statement. That’s what I’m all about, and that’s what fashion is all about! Warby Parker really hit it out of the park with this one.

The Waterway Collection is out NOW! Go check out the amazing Waterway Collection 2014 online at www.warbyparker.com/sunglasses for their sunnies or http://www.warbyparker.com/eyeglasses for their prescription glasses! You can also check it out at a Warby Parker store and showroom near you! Tell me in the comments which pair of glasses from The Waterway Collection is your favorite! Mine is either Griffin or Piper. All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go…

IMG_9685

Top: My mother’s closet

Skirt: Forever 21

Necklace and Bracelet: Forever 21

Belt: Dillard’s

IMG_9690 IMG_9695

Fun Fact: This is my outfit from yesterday, but my computer crashed so here I am, sharing it with you all today. (:

It was a chill, cloudy day and I didn’t have any plans to step out. But hey, who says you can’t dress up and look nice while kicking it at home with your family? It was a bit chilly, so I opted for a casual three-quarter sleeve top courtesy of my mother’s closet to dress my outfit down a bit.

I really like how simple this outfit is, but then the little details make it unique- the zipper and leather on the skirt, the gold buttons on the top, the tan belt, even the necklace and bracelet add some dimension!

IMG_9691 IMG_9697 IMG_9701

Sometimes my friends tease me for looking “put-together” and “fancy” at home, but I really like the sweet simplicity of this look! At times it’s fun to be all dressed with nowhere to go… (:

July Lovelies Haul!

Hey friends, July has come and gone, so normally I’d be sharing my Monthly Lovelies! Wow, where is the summer going? This month is going to be a little bit different… I remembered that I’ve wanted to do a Haul for a while, so here is my July Lovelies Haul, showing you my favorite recent purchases!

Black and Yellow

I wore this outfit to the Aero Now VIP Launch Party, and I’ve been loving these pieces so much.

100_1870

1. Yellow Peplum Top with Heart Cutout 100_1873 I love how bright this top is; it just screams, “Summer!” I don’t own a lot of yellow clothing and don’t normally gravitate towards it. However, when I saw this top on the racks in the store, the whole world faded around us and a heavenly light shone down on this blouse. Melodramatic? Maybe a little, but it was love at first sight! 100_1877 100_1875 The quarter sleeves and flattering peplum around the waist are really feminine, and the high neckline is chic while the heart cutout in the back is edgy. To top it all off, this top is so comfortable and versatile- I can wear this top with a pencil skirt or white shorts for the rest of the summer, and then jeans, trousers and boots in the fall!

2. Black Mini Skirt w/ Leather Zipper Detail 100_1881 100_1889 This is the zippered mini skirt that I wore with the peplum top. I bought this skirt not only to wear with my peplum top, but also because I don’t have anything like it. I have a black skater skirt, my go to skirt that marries well with everything, and I needed a black pencil skirt that would be a nicer alternative. I love this piece because the zipper adds some edge and the leather strip contributes dimension. Next on the list, a new Little Black Dress! (: photo (2)

Here’s what the pieces look like when worn together!

3. Floral Skater Skirt

100_1891 100_1894

My favorite skirt is a “skater skirt,” and my favorite print is floral, so if you combine the two, then you have a winning combination made in heaven. I’m so excited to add this to my skirt collection and I think my favorite part of this piece is the print. It’s floral, but it’s not too animated. It has a vintage feel and it’s classy as well as classic.

100_1893 100_1898

Another thing I like about this skirt is the waistband. It’s not very thick, which I like, and it appears to be more flattering that way. It defines my waist well and would look cute with a thin belt. Above all, it’s versatile! This can be translated through so many seasons and styled in so many ways. I can’t wait to get some good use out of this!

3. White Chain Statement Necklace

 100_1908 100_1911 100_1909

This statement necklace is a little different from what I typically go for, but that’s what makes it so appealing to me. I love trying out new things and finding new ways to style my outfits with the little things as well as the major things. Rather than a bib style, this white necklace makes a360-degreee statement with the white and gold geometric design. It’s ultra chic and very classy, so I look forward to styling it!

5. Tortoise Frame Sunglasses

100_1912 100_1913

I am absolutely in love with these sunglasses! I’ve been wanting a new pair of sunnies, and as you may know from my last Monthly Lovelies post, my go to pair has been my aviators. I wanted something different.. bold yet understated, classy yet fun, and totally different from what you see the everyday-typical-teenage-girl wear.

100_1916

I spotted these at Love Culture and grabbed the last pair before you could blink. These remind me a lot of Carrie Bradshaw and Anna Wintour somewhat, two of my favorite fashion icons. I really like the tortoise frame, a definite classic, and I’m excited to have a rounded-near-cateye frame in my collection of sunnies.

6. A Little Studded Collar

 100_1907 100_1900

I saved this one for last because this was by far the purchase I was most excited about! Ok, story time…

~~

Now, you all obviously know that the name of my blog is The Studded Collar. Here’s a little fun fact- it’s not because I like Studded Collars (even though I really do like them)! Long story short, I came up with the title by combing two clothing details I love- studs and collars. When I started writing, I realized that I didn’t own any collared shirts with studs on the collar. I’ve been searching for the perfect studded collar shirt every time I’m out at the shops, and I found this classic beauty the other day. Now, Kay B, writer and founder of The Studded Collar, has a studded collar shirt!

~~

I love the overall versatility of this shirt (seems to be a theme in my purchases…) and the color that compliments my skin nicely. The material is also nice, it feels like chiffon, so it appears very classy and feels very comfy.

There you have it! That’s my July Lovelies Haul, showing my favorite recent purchases for the month. In the comments below tell me what you’re go to piece has been this summer! It can be an accessory, clothing item, anything! Stay tuned for more from me, and in the meantime, darlings…

Travel Style 101: Carry On Essentials

Hey hey hey everyone! It’s time for my last entry in the Travel Style Series, and this one is about some Carry-On Essentials!

Carry On Essentials

When traveling, whether it’s by air, car, ferry or train, it’s really important to have all the essentials in your carry on bag. Honestly, it can make or break your journey, and I think we’ve all experienced that cold, horrific moment when you realize you forgot something crucial from your bag. So, to avoid this nightmare, I’ve got some essentials for you. (:

1. Water

water

I always have a bottle of water with me to stay hydrated. I drink so much water and I like to always have it with me if I get thirsty!

2. iPhone/ iPod and Earphones

iPhone_iPod

No matter where I am, I always have my phone with me, and most often it’s in my hands! When I go on trips, I always have my earphones as well to listen to music, maybe watch some movies, and escape the world for a bit in my own little bubble of entertainment. (:

3. Good Reads

good reads

When I want to take a break from staring at my hot, bright computer or phone screen, I always like to have a couple of books or magazines with me! I love love loooove reading, and I like to keep that up on a plane or car ride.

A book that I am finally about to start is The Fault In Our Stars. Yes, I saw the movie, and yes, I bawled my eyes out, and yes, I wore waterproof mascara so my makeup wouldn’t run because yes, I knew my heart was going to break into a million pieces only to be swept up later from the floors of the cinema. Comment  below what your favorite book is! I need some new recommendations (:

4. Gum

gum

I actually never chew gum (I’m more of a mint kinda girl) but when I go on airplanes I absolutely must have some with me. I chew it on the plane if I get that weird feeling in my ear while in the air, and I usually go for the Trident Layers. I may not chew gum often, but this one is so yummy!

5. Chapstick

chapstick

I don’t know if it’s just me, but my lips get super chapped, especially on airplanes, so I always have my trusty Burt’s Bees Chapstick in my carry-on. Let’s be real, I always have my trusty Burt’s Bees Chapstick with me, period! Their chapsticks are so amazing and hydrating; they leave my lips feeling soft and moisturized.

6. Laptop and Movies

Laptop and Movies

Typically on longer trips, I take my laptop and a few of my favorite movies with me to keep myself entertained. Per my sweet mother’s advice, I do, at times, take a break to take in the scenery and “God’s creation” that’s all around me, but once I get a little tired of looking at skyscrapers, trees, and cows, I escape to Hollywood and watch some movies.

7. A Journal

journal

Now, when I am taking in “God’s creation,” I get inspired and write in my travel journal! I love writing, whether it’s about a specific topic, some poetry, a story or just what’s going on in my life. I have a journal that I like to write in about my travels, and it’s super fun to look back and re-live the fun moments.

8. Travel Size Makeup

travel size makeup

If you did decide to wear makeup on your trip, then I think it’s nice to have a few travel-sized makeup  items in your bag. After spending a few hours on the ride, you may want to touch up your makeup, so it’s nice to have it on you rather than search for it later- much more convenient!

9. Comfy Socks

comfy socks

This is an absolute must for me on trips! When traveling, it’s crucial to wear comfortable shoes with a comfy outfit! (You can check out my first post in my Travel Series for comfy outfit inspo.) But when I’m in a car, on a plane, or even a train, I sometimes remove my shoes and wear some comfy, fuzzy socks! They keep my lil’ piggies warm (am I the only one who thinks that planes, trains, and cars- at times- are always freezing!?) and make me comfortable throughout my journey.

Well, that’s it for this post! Tell me in the comments below what your number one carry-on essential is! While you’re at it, let me know what book you’d recommend! I love reading new books, so I’m open to suggestions. Don’t forget to subscribe for more from me, and follow my Instagram, Twitter, and like my Facebook page!

Stay Fab,

Kay B xx
