Spring Break: Day Makeup Look

Hi hi, loves, and happy Friday!

I am super excited about this article because it’s the first time I’ve ever done anything like this. With Spring Break just around the corner, I thought I would come to you with a few fun articles just in time for every student’s week in the Spring.

Today, I’m coming to you guys with a Day to Night Makeup tutorial. It’s fairly easy, and it’s pretty versatile because you can have a nice day look that can easily be turned into a darker, more defined evening look without removing any of your makeup. You could also do each one individually and rock it however you like! Anyway, let’s get started with the day look. (:

1. First, we’re going to start with a fresh face. Make sure to wash your face so that your makeup goes on smoothly.

2. Next, I’m using my foundation to even out my skin. I mix these two foundations to match my skintone- I’m combining Covergirl TruBlend in the shade d6 and Covergirl Outlast 2 in 1 in the shade Honey Almond. You can use your fingers, a sponge, or a brush to blend in your foundation, depending on your preference.

3. Now, I’m using my Elf HD Lifting Concealer on my eyes to even out the color as well as prime my eyelids.

4. Now, I’m going to use my Kabuki brush to set my concealer and foundation with my matte powder by Covergirl in Honey Almond.DSC_0061foundation done2

5. Now let’s work on the eyes. I’m going to use this Rose Blush pink shadow all over my eyelid. It’ll brighten my eyes and, since it’s so bright, it will illuminate the other colors I use and make them appear more pigmented.DSC_0088 DSC_0100

6. Now, on the outer corners of the lid and the outer half of my under eyes, I’m going in with this warm Cocoa Brown shadowDSC_0113DSC_0122 DSC_0117

7. Now it’s time to put this lighter brown shade in the crease to define our eye shape.DSC_0127DSC_0119

8. Next, we’ll use a black pencil liner on the upper eyelid for definition. I’m using the shade Black Out by Ulta. After applying it to my top lid, I will smudge it a bit with a smudge brush to make the appearance thicker and smokier.DSC_0141 DSC_0152

9. This is one of my favorite parts of my makeup routine- filling in my eyebrows. Looking at the difference just makes me feel accomplished because a good eyebrow job equals a good day. (: This is the difference between my eyebrows when done and undone.DSC_0187

10. Now, it’s time to frame our eyes by applying mascara to our lashes. I’m using Colossal Volume by Maybelline for a separated, fanned out look.DSC_0202DSC_0203

11. After this, it’s time to put our highlight and bronzer on our cheekbones. I’m using Warm Bronzer by Elf, and I’m using the lighter shade on the left to highlight my cheekbones.DSC_0227

12. Now it’s time to add some color to our cheeks with a rosy blush. This is Dust Rose from Sephora.DSC_0324

13. Finally, we shall apply a tinted balm for a pop of color on the lips. I chose Maybelline’s Baby Lips in Pink Punch. I chose a tinted balm as opposed to a lip stick or lip gloss because it keeps your lips hydrated throughout the day, and the color lasts really well for several hours while on the go without looking to harsh. Perfect for a casual day look.
kayb

Here you have it- the final look! I love this makeup look because it perfectly defines all your features without going to overboard for a casual day. It’s pretty versatile, and the eye makeup looks good with any eye color because the colors used are pretty neutral.

If you wanted to define any parts of your makeup look more or less, then you’re able to do so and still look well put together. In fact, this makeup look can easily be transformed into an evening look without removing one swipe of makeup. You can even do the night makeup look on its own for an evening out! If you want to see the continuation of this evening makeup look, stay tuned on the blog for part two. (:

Thank you guys so much for checking out this tutorial. It’s my first one and there will plenty more to come! I hope you enjoyed it and, most of all, just have fun! Until next time…DSC_0269

Christmas Gift Guide for Her + Holiday Giveaway!

Happy Holidays, my loves! We have T-minus 6 days until Christmas and I am more than excited! Spending time with family and friends, seeing all the Christmas lights and movies, everything is just so magical at Christmas time. Something that goes into making the season really fun is buying gifts for your family and friends!

Gift Guide- Cover

It can be tough to decide what to get for those close to you, especially the ladies in our lives. So, here is a little gift guide to make the gift shopping process a little easier for you all during this exciting, magical season.

1. Kate Spade Goodies

Gift Guide- Kate Spade

If you know a lady who loves to write, journal, is hyper-organized, or just loves Kate Spade, then this is the gift for her. I love the polka dot and sparkle designs from Kate Spade for their office collections, especially this Agenda and Pen. Their mugs and phone cases are so cute as well. I don’t know about you, but if someone got me a gift that made my everyday tasks a bit cuter and more fun, I would be quite appreciative. Besides, who says you can’t be chic while jotting down notes, whipping out your phone, or making yourself a nice cup of tea?

2. The Best Albums to Close Out 2014

Gift Guide- Music

Music is a huge part of my life, so I am a bit biased when I include this gift idea in here along with the specific artists like Taylor Swift and Charli XCX. BUT if you’ve got a friend who is always humming a tune or gets lost in the music, get her a few CD’s that speak to her taste! Whether she’s a fanatic for boybands like One Direction or goes crazy for alternative rock groups like Walk the Moon, getting a music CD from her favorite musician(s) is a thoughtful gift. Plus, it means more to get CD’s from groups you know she loves than getting the generic, basic… dare I say it… iTunes gift card. *shudders* (But we all love iTunes, so no one can complain about that gift either (: )

3. Bath and Body Sets

Gift Guide- Bath and Body

Another lovely gift idea for your girlfriends and lady-loved ones (I tried… you know what I mean) is a bath and body set! If she likes mysterious yet floral scents, then the BCBGMaxazria Bon Genre 4-Piece Fragrance Gift Set is the perfect gift set. For a cool, wintery scent that is a breeze of crisp air upon opening the package (my inner poet has been unleashed and she can’t be tamed) then the Philosophy Snow Angel Super set is the winning ticket! Finally, Julep has some awesome hand and body lotions, and for a sweet, warm scent that is great to use all year round, purchase the Hands in the Air hand lotion gift set. Honestly, with any of these three, you can’t go wrong!

4. Too Faced Makeup+Brushes

Gift Guide- Makeup

Not only are makeup sets great Christmas gifts, but they are also awesome stocking stuffers! A brand that I have really started loving recently is Too Faced, and their palettes are just darling! Their new Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette and Beauty Wishes Sweet Kisses Palette are great gifts because 1) the quality of the shadows, bronzers and blushes are amazing, and the colors are dimensional as well as neutral enough to compliment any skin tone! The browns, burgundies, pinks, and shimmers are beautiful for the Christmas season and beyond and are sure to make this lucky gal quite holly and jolly.

5. Sunglasses

Gift Guide- Sunglasses

You guys know by now that I absolutely love sunglasses and I find them to be such a cute accessory. Sunglasses would be such a cute Christmas gift, especially as a stocking stuffer. The gorgeous sunnies you see above are from an awesome company called Raen Optics. They have some amazing quality glasses that take sun ray protection to entirely new- and fashion forward- level.

IMG_2947[1]IMG_2948[1]IMG_2953[1]IMG_2955[1] IMG_2956[1]IMG_2960[1]

One of my favorite lenses from Raen is their Remmy Lens. This is Remmy in Crystal and I absolutely love it! It’s nothing like any of the other sunglasses I own and I’m so in love with it. I ordered these from DITTO using their awesome try-on-at-home technology and I was nothing short of impressed. Check out my article about DITTO and their virtual try-on-at-home feature- you’ll be amazed by what you see. Thanks so much for the sunnies, DITTO!

Now, don’t go away just yet! I want to thank you guys so much for all your love and support- that is the greatest Christmas gift you guys could give me! To me, Christmas is more about giving than receiving, so because I love you guys so much, I have a Christmas gift for you- MY FIRST GIVEAWAY!!

IMG_2941[1]IMG_2946[1]

“One Day You’re In, the Next You’re Out”

Good Afternoon, darlings, and happy Tuesday! I hope you all are doing well and enjoying the holiday season and are just as excited for the holidays as I am. I know I typically do not post on Tuesday afternoons, but I felt like doing a ”

I know I typically do not post on Tuesday afternoons, but I felt like doing a “Tossback Tuesday” post to one of the most memorable nights- Fashion X Dallas 2014. If you haven’t seen my recap of the event, you can check out my write-up here!

img_0178

It was an amazing experience that I could never forget, and one of the most memorable parts was meeting the designers whose designs graced the runway. I had the chance to chat with them a bit backstage and interview them. I thought it would be fun for us to reminisce together, so I’m here to share a few of my chats with some of the designers with you. (:

img_2537

MELISSA FLEIS

Kay B: “If you can tell us before everything goes out on the runway tonight, what inspired this collection and what is the story behind it?”

Melissa Fleis: “I guess the story is that it’s a collection. It’s a collection of past works styled together. So I took pieces from Project Runway, I have pieces that are from my most recent collection, pieces that are brand new for the collection- it’s just kind of like a mashup, which is awesome because I’ve never done that! You always build a collection, and then you show the collection together, but I said, ‘Let’s just view this from new eyes.’ I like how everything goes together no matter what season it is and that’s how I try to sell to my clients.

KB: That’s such a cool concept, really!

MF: Yeah, I believe that if you buy a piece then you should be able to extend the life of it throughout so many years.

KB: Speaking of seasons, what would you say is your favorite trend right now for Fall, if you do believe in “trends”?

MF: Ok, this is inevitable to be a trend- last night I was in a crowd of so many women and I just saw blood orange lipstick everywhere! Also, you’ll flip through a magazine and it just instantly pops into your head and it’s weird, even with designers, how people are so in sync with things.

KB: So true.

MF: So I don’t wear ponchos, but that is a complete trend! *laughs* I also love how people can wear socks- like, over the knee or a little bit higher. I think that’s really cute and I may try that. Booties are my favorite, I’ve been wearing them for years, and I think they’re just now starting to become a trend which I love!

KB: Me too, everything you’ve said is on point! Now, major question- Fringe: Yes or No?

MF: Yes, I- Yes! I have something fringe for the show tonight- leather fringe!

KB: I already love it, yes! Now, that’s good- combining two great trends, leather and fringe, together is a golden combination! My final question for you is this: what advice do you have for aspiring designers or anyone who wants to make it in the fashion industry?

MF: I would definitely say to start creating. Start thinking. Whether it’s drawing, whether it’s sewing something, just become familiar with it first-hand.  Go take an internship, go study with someone, go take a class- learn! Then you can harness those skills and become- you know you want to become an expert in your one area. Not all designers can cut, sew or for patterns… some are just straight designer and they can sketch and they’re done, which is fine! So you want to really know your skills, know what you’re good at.

MYCHAEL KNIGHT

When I spoke to Mychael Knight about his inspiration for his collection and presentation, here’s what he told me.

Mychael Knight: I really wanted to embody femininity without  being matronly. We found a floral print from an old couch we saw and I fell in love with it. It was gorgeous, floral and looked a bit lacey, but the colors we dated; I used that print in bright, fluorescent colors against white to make it more youthful and create what you saw this evening.

Kay B: What is something that you are always mindful of when designing women’s wear.

MK: I just keep the woman in mind. I want to design clothes to capture the femininity, confidence and beauty that all women have so that they can feel confident, beautiful, even sexy when they wear my clothes.

KB: What is one word that you would use to describe your experience on Project Runway

MK: Wow, there are lots, it was such a whirlwind! But I definitely found it humbling. I had never worked so hard and with so many other incredible, hard-working people. It really opened my eyes to so many things. Also, it made me so thankful because I would not be where I am today, I would not have presented my collection today, I would not have been standing here talking to you today if it were not for all the support, love and people I’ve been surrounded by during this experience.

img_0822

MICHELLE LESNIAK

Kay B: The esthetic of your clothing is so unique, I haven’t seen anything like it before!

Michelle Lesniak: Thank you! I really like how the pieces came together to make something so out of the ordinary but visually captivating.

KB: Your collection was definitely one of the grandest to walk the runway. It almost reminded me of what I see at New York Fashion Week- the difference was that your collection was a lot more wearable! What did you do to achieve that?

ML: I definitely appreciate how artistic fashion can be, but I wanted to make something that women can wear. When everything is put together, it looks very much like high fashion, but the key is layering. When you take each individual piece, you can wear it on a day to day basis and style it as you please.

KB: Speaking of that, do you have any tips for layering during the fall and winter season?

ML: My tip- started with the thinnest layer and work your way up! Also make sure that the layers you wear together can be worn individually as well. Once you’ve done that you have a successful, killer outfit for the season.

img_0630

LAURA KATHLEEN

Kay B: I absolutely loved watching your show. I noticed that you used a lot of color blocking- what made you want to use that route in your designs?

Laura Kathleen: I like that you noticed the color blocking! I used that technique a lot in the collection because I wanted my substance to be in the textures. If you look at the blue jumpsuit that I opened up with, you’ll see that it looks blue from afar, but up close, there’s kind of a reptilian print. The textures not only add visual appeal, but also substance and body.

KB: That blue jumpsuit was probably my favorite item in the entire collection- I just can’t stop thinking about it!

LK: Funnily enough, the blue jumpsuit is my favorite in the entire line! I really wanted to incorporate a jumpsuit because it’s such a versatile piece; it can be dressed up with a statement necklace and some heels or dressed down with flats and simpler jewelry. Also, the waistline on jumpsuits is really flattering.

Little Black Dress Designer Fashion Show

Hello, sweet friends, Happy Studded Collar Sunday!

I’d like to start off with a few announcements and thank-yous as well (Have to have an attitude for gratitude!)

First, thank you all so incredibly much for your kind feedback and the love you sent me about the Tootsies Homecoming Lookbook! I had so much fun putting it together for you all, and for your reaction to be so immensely positive was overwhelming. Plus, several of you guys sent me tweets and messages saying it helped you compose a fabulous ensemble for your next dance! I love you all so much and I’m overjoyed that you all enjoyed the post. I’ll do more projects like this in the future for you. (:

I would also send another big thank you to Tootsies for the opportunity to work with you all! I felt like a princess and the dresses, suits, accessories and more were gorgeous. It was such a fun experience and I am eternally grateful for it.

Now, I have one quick announcement before we dive right into the post. I have a new Instagram and Twitter! I’m switching over to an account I already have set up. My new Instagram is @16kayb, and my username for Twitter is also @16KayB. Go follow those accounts if you haven’t already, and in a couple of days I will change the usernames from @16kayb to @studdedcollar for consistency. I’m really active on my social media links, so go check them out. Now, let’s get started with all the fun!

Dress: Pimkie | Shoes: Guess | Necklace: Swarovski | Clutch: Mom’s Closet

Bracelet/Ring: Charming Charlie| Earings: Gifted

You all may or may not know that the past two weeks have been occupied by Fashion Week in the world’s various capitals- first New York, then London, and today Milan’s came to a close. While I was unable to attend New York Fashion Week this year, I had the chance to have some local Fashion Week fun! I attended the Little Black Dress Designer Fashion Show and Party at Tootsies earlier this week. Several of Dallas’s fashion elite attended, and I had an amazing time meeting them and enjoing the show!

Show5 Show9 Show10

Such an honor to meet designer Esé (left) and one of Dallas’s fashion elite, Christine (right)

The fashion show was hosted by Tootsies for the Little Black Dress Designer Foundation. This organization gives students and up-and-coming designers the opportunity to re-invent the classic Little Black Dress to potentially win an academic scholarship, funding for their brand, and career networking opportunities to kickstart their career. It’s an amazing association that has already awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to students since it was founded by Jeff Shell n 2008. Tell me this isn’t an amazing concept? (Seriously don’t, because you’d be dead wrong.) (:

Show6IMG_1074

Had an amazing time attending the show with my beautiful best friend (:

I opted for a black dress because not only was it the theme of the show, but the little black dress is a classic statement. This gorgeous dress has a classic simplicity and became my canvas for the evening. I love that the underlay of the dress is like a bandage, or body-con, dress, while the overlay is a flowy, flirty, sheer material that gives the dress a higher level of formality and grace.

I feel like when girls wear black they always have a pop of loud color(s). That is totally okay (in moderation), but another option is to add color variety through metallics! I wore this gorgeous silver diamond drop necklace from Swawrovski, diamond studs, and then switched it up with gold Guess shoes and an all black clutch with divine gold and diamond detailing. My ring and bracelet had golden and jewel accents as well. It takes a plain black dress from drab to fab without wearing a fluorescent pink belt or crimson blue pumps. (:

Show18 Show19 Show17

I had an unbelievably wonderful time at the show, and I thank Tootsies immensely. The show was beautiful and the dresses were to die for. Now, ladies, I want you to remember this quote- it’s golden:

“One is never over-dressed or underdressed in a little black dress,” ~ Karl Lagerfeld

Much love to you all.
