NYFW 2016: Strutting the Streets

Hi there, lovies!

Yes, I’m back. For those of you who thought that I had died or changed my name and moved to Switzerland, you were very wrong and I’m definitely not in Switzerland. I know I haven’t been on my A-game but I have returned and boy do I have plans for you all this year. So, to catch up on everything that I’ve missed… Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Happy Valentine’s Day. Now, let’s get to work. (:

With the month of February comes the start of Fashion Week season for 2016’s Fall/Winter collections. This past Thursday, New York Fashion Week came to a close and the shows were magnificent. Of course, all the talk surrounding Fashion Week focuses on what’s being displayed on stage, but what about the art that’s being shared off stage?

Think back to Kindergarten art class. You walked into class ready to create the next masterpiece that expresses your young and unique individuality, and you would have it shown in the best museum on earth (your parents’ office or the kitchen fridge.) Each student had their own style of artistry and it was a hodgepodge of greatness. This is basically what street style during fashion week is like. Everyone puts together their unique artistry and shows it off proudly. It’s nothing like you’ve ever seen before and definitely one of my favorite parts of fashion week. Let’s take a look at some of the best, most individual, and one of a kind looks from one of the best runways in the world: the streets of New York.

Captivating Coats

These coats are proof that you don’t have to conceal your fashionable artistry in the cold. Each makes a statement and immediately captures your attention. I particularly love the colorful, fun fur coats. They’re a great way to spice up a monochrome outfit while staying cozy in the winter weather.

woMENS-wear

woMENSwear2 woMENSwear

You know what they say- anything men can do, women can do better (most often in heels, too.) These feminine takes on men’s wear are incredibly flattering and elegant. The cream ensemble shows the formal side of feminized men’s wear with a slimming, cuffed pant and a cream blazer with inverted lapels. The other outfit displays more of a comfortable, business casual, yet chic alternative. The boyfriend fit, pinstriped blazer beautifully compliments the dark ensemble as well as the horizontally striped blouse.

Rocking Rainbows

I simply love these looks and accessories because they brighten up the streets beautifully. Yes, some of the outfits have different colors in various pieces, and yes, some have chosen to wear one bright color according to the color of their hair, but it works! The trick? One item has the color focus. For instance, in this last photo, the dress has the color focus because it is the largest piece and is predominantly white and sky blue. The other pieces are simply ornaments on this fashion tree and they all marry with the color scheme.

Playful Patterns

patterns rainbow3 rainbow5

These patterns are a great way to ease into a bold style and they don’t draw too much attention away from the outfit as a whole or, more importantly, you! The key is to put your pattern focus on one item and let the other clothing articles work with your patterned clothing of choice. Above all, have fun with it!

Terrific Textures

textures2 textures

Textures area perfect way to liven up any outfit. They immediately add dimension, depth, and edge to any outfit and turns your ensemble around entirely. I love this netted, black skirt paired with a black and white, houndstooth sweater with fur trim. Though there are several textures and patterns, it’s not too busy and still looks incredibly put together. This is because there is one color scheme and the shapes and textures are all geometric.

Ladies in Color

These looks are so sleek and I love that one color is the focus in these looks. It’s simple, yet each outfit has a different design that takes a solid color to a whole new level. Some people fear monochrome outfits because they may tend to look boring and one-dimensional. These are some solid examples that disprove this idea. Yes, it’s possible to look like a sheet of construction paper, but if you choose one color and piece together different items that have their own edge, you will come together with an edgy look, classy vibe, or whatever you please.

Whenever Fashion Weeks come around, we love to fawn over the designs that grace the runways, but the streets are a runway of their own. I love that there are weeks dedicated to the art of fashion and that everyone is so fearlessly themselves. I hope you all enjoyed these looks, and let me know which style was your favorite! I love the textures and monochrome maybe I’ll try to combine the two soon. (: I’ll be writing again soon, so don’t stray too far, my darlings!

Bonjour, mes petites croissantes! How are you all? Well, I hope! I’ve been a little under the weather, but never fear, this is a nice opportunity to get some more writing in, yes? There’s always an upside in my world (:

In my last article I shared with you my interview with Madison Patrylick, the designer behind MadJewels. I also mentioned her current Spring Collection, which, if I do say so myself, is quite impeccable. I’ve been loving on the MadJewels designs a TON this month, so here are some of the pieces from the line that I can assure you are some of the cutest accessories out there.

Sting Ray Ear Jackets in Black

Ok, these are absolutely to DIE for. The tasseled earrings are a great way of  translating the fringe/tassel trend to jewelry. The vibrant color is also a great way to liven up any look. Each of these pieces are so classy and organic, but the pair that stands out the most to me is the Sting Ray Ear Jackets in Black. It’s simple, but edgy (a great pairing with the Sandstorm Tassel Necklace), and the coolest part is that the earring itself is a sphere, and the backing is an even larger sphere. How cool is that? Very trendy.

January Lovlies

Hey everyone, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

This is my first post in my Monthly Lovelies Series, and I know it’s coming two days too late, but better late than never, yeah?

The first month of the New Year brought me new things to start absolutely L.O.V.I.N.G. Of course, I just have to share them with you!

Favorite Baby Lip Flavors

I don’t think I have come across someone yet who doesn’t like chapstick. It’s hydrating, it makes your lips feel good… what more could you ask for? Well, ladies, if you like chapstick, you will LOVE Baby Lips. It’s basically like chapstick, but it’s instantly hydrating, and, wait for it… it acts just like a lip stain or lip gloss!! There are clear options, of course. If you’re looking to add some color to your lips, though, as well as hydration, then Baby Lips is for you! I use Baby Lips, and within a week of using it, my lips were noticeably softer.

Favourite Mascara, January

My number one makeup piece that I could never live without is mascara. My mum bought this for me last month and asked me to try it, and boy did I see instant results! The mascara really lives up to it’s name. I usually apply two coats of mascara (for good measure), and with this, I only needed one. My eyelashes are pretty long compared to the average lash length, and this lengthened and thickened my lashes. I highly recommend this for anyone looking to lengthen their lashes!

My favorite app right now!

Ok, if being addicted to Polyvore is wrong, I don’t want to be right. Polyvore is an amazing website that allows you to put together high quality images of outfits, home decor sets, and more. When I say high quality, I mean High-Def. HD. Almost real. It’s amazing.  (I actually made these images on Polyvore!) In addition, you can search and shop for apparel, shoes, beauty products and more from all of your favourite stores in one place! Membership is absolutely free, as well as their iPhone app. You can check out my Polyvore account @thestuddedcollar. I’ll be doing some contests there, so be sure to check it out!

My loves, Infinity Scarves

Infinity scarves are absolutely amazing. It’s the classic scarf revolutionized. I’ve been wearing these so much during these winter months. If you know England, then you know our cold, dreary, and rainy weather. I despise the cold with a burning passion, (if laughed at that unintentional oxymoron, I applaud you) so I wear these often. Their so cute, and I just… gah I just love them. Cream an maroon are my favourite colors for them… I have too many of them to be honest….

Favourite Shoes of January

BOOOOOOOTS boots boots boots boots boots boots boots. I think you get the point.

I’ll be honest, wearing leather riding boots is not easy in a frequently rainy country, but I’m Gigi Parrington… I find a way.

Go to Cable Knit Sweater

Last, but certainly not least, cable knit sweaters. I mentioned these in my Back To School bit earlier last year, but I fell in love with them more recently. I’ve worn these with leggings, jeans, trousers, skirts, anything. They’re so warm and vintage but so stylish.

There you have it, my 6 January Lovelies! I’ll be back at the end of the month with my February lovelies, and I can’t wait to share them with you! I think I’ll do a contest with this for February…

In the mean time, comment below what you were raving about last month! I’d love to know and learn about some new things to try (: Check out my Polyvore, Instagram, Twitter and other social media to keep up with me. Until next time my darlings…

Stay Fab,

Gigi xx.

New Year, New Me

I’m Baaaack!!!

Happy New Year! I hope you all rang in the new year and high style and had the best time celebrating with your loved ones.

I didn’t drop off of the face of the earth, loves. I’ve been crazy busy, and I’ll have a post with my lengthy adventure up soon…

Now, I don’t know about you, but, as cheesy as it sounds, I decided that this new year calls for a new me… in the sense of style of course. I’ll admit, as much as I love style, there are times when I wear what ‘everyone is going to wear.’

You know what I mean…  you’re going to the cinema with your mates and instead of pulling on some ace Doc Martins, that new burgundy circle skirt and the olive green army jacket you’ve dying to sport, you pull on your favorite jeans or leggings and an Average Joe t-shirt. Trust me, even the most fashionable people in the universe have these moments. If they say they don’t… they’re lying!!

Anyway, if I’m to be quite frank, I could say that I’m pretty adventurous with my style, and I like not being like everyone else! But I do conform to normality at times. So this year, I decided to throw my conforming nature to the wind! I’m going to dress to please myself (and my parents of course… let’s not get crazy alright?) and express myself through my style. I hope you do that this year too! Scratch that, I double dog dare you. So now you kind of have to, sorry.

So to end this random, mushy post with some inspirational word cheesier than a 5 cheese lasagna, be true to you. Whether it’s through your style, your hobbies, your aspirations, just BE YOU! Don’t change any part of yourself because of some petty differences. Trust me, if everyone was the same, this would be a bleak, boring world full of…khakis. *shudder*

Have an amazing year being the amazing you I know you are.

Stay YOU,

Gigi xx.

This Isn’t Goodbye…

Hello lovely ladies, long time no blog…

Well, if you haven’t noticed from the cyber crickets chirping for the last couple of months, I haven’t been blogging recently. Believe me, I’ve had a lot to share and have missed The Studded Collar so much! However, I’ve been immensely busy and have several things I need to take care of…

I can’t make any promises as to when I’ll be back, or how often I’ll write for now, BUT I will be back- this is by no means GOODBYE! I plan to make The Studded Collar as successful as I can, but to do that I must start back up when I can devote a fair amount of time to you all and this blog. Keep following my Twitter and Instagram (@studdedcollar) and like my Facebook page, The Studded Collar, and I will do my best to remain active there.

I love you all and will be back very soon…
